THE favourable reception with which the Epitome of Dr. Paley's Evidences of Christianity was honoured by the University, and the Public, has induced the compiler to digest the substance of that author's PRINCIPLES OF MORAL AND POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY, into a similar catechetical form. The manner in which the enlightened moralist has discussed this momentous subject, characterized as it is by liberality, penetration and perspicuity, has secured for him an unquestioned and exalted rank among ethical philosophers. To adapt his reasoning to the use of some who might hesitate to pursue the elaborate investigations of the original work is the object of the present compendium-the questions and answers of which are expressed, as nearly as possible, in Paley's own words. It may lead to the study of that work in its un-abridged form, and small will be the number |
