The Sea is of the very best blood in England; got by Whalebone, dam by Orville, her dam by Sir Solomon, out of Miss Brim, by Highflyer. Of the very few Whalebone horses now covering in England The Sea is the youngest; and breeders in the north must remember that he is the only one in that part of the country. He is a remarkably handsome and well-made horse, of a dark brown colour, standing 15 hands 3 inches high, with particularly good and bony legs, has an excellent constitution, a very fine temper, good action, is quite sound, and is one of the gamest horses that ever ran. He has never served mares regularly, having only covered two mares belonging to his late owner, who hunted him up to the close of last season. The produce of one of these mares, Mermaid, won the Anglesey's, which is the Derby of Ireland; and Wave, a two years old, out of the same mare, won the 100gs stake at the Curragh, and another produce stake last October, the only two races she has started for. The produce of the other mare is a very fine colt, called Merman, which was deeply engaged last spring, but went amiss, and has not run.
