ing, which has accumulated during the night, and an itching sensation is felt at times, deep down in the urethra.

His water is highly colored most of the time, and his bowels are constipated. He is unfit for marriage, and he desires to get well, will you please give me a treatment suitable for this case.

What do you think of Sanmetto in a case like this? It is recommended very highly in BRIEF.

Linwood, Miss. J. W. GIPSON, M. D.

[We advise the use of Sanmetto in this case. Give a teaspoonful before meals and at bed time. Also, give strychnia sulphate in one-fiftieth to one-thirtieth grain doses thrice daily, according to individual tolerance of the drug.

Also, use a solution of Kennedy's White Pinus Canadensis and Listerine, each one ounce, water, six ounces, as injection into the urethra night and morning.

Keep the bowels open, advise the patient against getting over-tired, and have him wear a well-fitting suspensory until the cure is complete.-ED.]

Polarization of Nerve Force.

Are not a great many physiological defects caused by a mere change of polarity in molecular electric force that can be readily corrected by a current from a good static electric machine? G. W. FARROW, M. D.

Varicocele.

Dr. T. M. Gipson, Belleforte, Ark., wants the best treatment for varicocele. He has a case that baffles him. Let us hear from BRIEF readers who have had success in this direction.

Buckskin Dressing for Eczema. Davesac has found that buckskin applied over the salve fits smoothly to the surface, yielding to every movement, never rots nor produces erythema, does not absorb the salve, and does not stick to the tissues, while it is easily washed, and keeps the dressing moist inside, and dry without, and the scabs leave a healthy surface when they drop off.— Sem. Medicinal Treatment of Uterine
Fibroids.

In the treatment of fibroids of the uterus of small size it is rarely considered necessary to resort to operative intervention. Yet, in some of these cases, the tumor produces so much disturbance, especially profuse hemorrhages, that some form of treatment is absolutely indicated. Some time ago Lutaud, of Paris, reported some observations which showed that the active principle of the thyroid gland, known as iodothyrine, has a marked influence in arresting hemorrhages from uterine fibroids, in causing a reduction of their size and preventing the growth of the neoplasm. He gave iodothyrine in fifteen grain doses, daily, and never observed ill effects, and his experience was sufficiently encouraging to lead him to recommend this remedy for careful trial. The advantage of iodothyrine over the other thyroid preparations are those belonging to any active principle when compared with the crude drug, viz., greater uniformity of effect, more rapid absorption and promptness of action, as well as exactness and convenience in administration.-Ex.

Insanity.

Insanity is a purely physical disease, and as such amenable, in its incipiency in many cases at least, to remedies calculated to correct the disorder. Aside from cases of gross brain disease, general paresis, epileptic insanity and brain syphilis, it is, at the outset, essentially a disorder of function on the part of the brain, and in a large number of cases readily responsive to treatment; even the exceptional forms of disease noted are susceptible of improvement by instituting suitable treatment at an early stage. The somatic theory as a basis of insanity is sufficiently well-established to require no extended argument. Such being the case the treatment of various derangements of the purely physical system, and that at an early period is of prime importance.-Mil. Med. Jour.

phoid fever cannot be aborted. Other physicians know by experience that it can be aborted, and that the agent to accomplish this result is that strictly ethical preparation known as Viskolein. "The abortive properties which it possesses evidently lie in the complete inoculation of the blood with an antiseptic that will render the blood an unfertile field for the propagation of germs or the growth of disease ferments."

VISKOLEIN

Viskolein is an antipyretic, an antiseptic, and a stimulant. If used with proper attention to details, the temperature of the patient will be rapidly, safely and permanently reduced, while the peculiar antiseptic properties of the remedy destroy the bacteria which cause the fever. Recovery must necessarily follow. Viskolein is one of the real advances in medicine that mark the close of this century. Viskolein is always indicated in fevers of all formspneumonia, influenza, pyemia, septicemia, and all other zymotic diseases. For formula, literature and clinical reports, address

The preface to this edition says in words, better than we could express it, just what we have found on a thorough investigation to be correct. "The very gratifying success which the first edition has met has made the author desirous of bringing the present one thoroughly up to the demands of the times. He has, therefore, submitted it to a complete revision, enlarging it considerably and adding several new illustrations. He would again emphasize the statement, made repeatedly through the volume, that the chapter on "The Sick (Continued on page 1878.)
