Senator Warren offered the following resolution and moved its adoption;

Resolved, That the Democratic Senators be authorized to name three committee clerks for the session.

MESSAGE FROM THE HOUSE.

The following message was received from the House;

MR. PRESIDENT-I am directed to inform your honorable body that the House has adopted the following resolution :

WHEREAS, The Chamber of the House of Representatives is partially destroyed by fire, therefore not in condition for occupancy and

WHEREAS, The Senate of the Thirtieth General Assembly have surrendered the use of the Senate Chamber and tendered the same to the House, therefore, be it

Resolved, That we highly appreciate the courtesy and self-denial of the Senate and tender to them our thanks for the same, and be it further

Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be messaged to the Senate. R. C. BENEDICT,

The President appointed the following committee on Inauguration, Senators: Dowell, Molsberry, Winne, Turner. Lambert, Eckles.

The President announced the following committee on Additional Employes on the part of the Senate:

Senators Smith, Maytag and Hogue.

The President appointed the following committe on Mileage: Senators 'Erickson, Saunders and Smith of Des Moines.

Senator Molsberry moved that the Senate do now adjourn until 10 o'clock tomorrow morning.

Carried.

SENATE CHAMBER.

DES MOINES, Iowa, Tuesday, January 12, 1904.

Senate met pursuant to adjournment at 10 o,clock A. M. President Herriott presiding.

Prayer was offered by Rev. John P. Hall of Woodward Iowa.

On request of Senator Whipple leave of absence was granted Senator Young of Washington for the day.

On request of Senator Crossley leave of absence was granted Senator Maytag for the day.

Senator Bruce asked that the Journal of today show that he was excused yesterday on account of unavoidable absence.

The President announced as his private Secretary Jas. H. Wilson of Adair county.

Senator Courtright asked unanimous consent as a compliment to the oldest Senator of the Thirtieth General Assembly and on account of his being hard of hearing, that Senator Crawford be awarded seat No. 1.

Granted unanimously.

Senator Ericson from the Committee on Mileage submitted the following report:

MR. PRESIDENT-Your Committee on Mileage by their report they find the members of the Senate of the Thirtieth General Assembly are entitled to mileage as follows:

Senator Ericson moved the adoption of the committee report and on the question shall the report be adopted.

House Joint Resolution, relating to the election of additional employes, fixing their compensation and defining their duties.

Joirt resolution relating to the selection of additional employes of the Thirtieth General Assembly, fixing their compensation and defining their duties.

Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the state of Iowa:

SECTION 1. That E. J. Culver of Clarion, W. S. Page of Colesburg, Frank Crawford of Altoona, and A. J. Scott of Rockwell City, are hereby appointed policemen at a salary of $70.00 per month each.

SECTION 2. That Arnie Gunderson of Clermont, L. B. Raymond Jr., of Hampton, Will Richards of Hinton, and T. W. Hazelton of Calmar, are hereby appointed clerks in the document room at a salary of $60.00 per month each.

SECTION 3. That H. H. Baldwin of Fort Dodge is hereby appointed a clerk in the supply department at a salary of $60.00 per month.

SECTION 4. That Frank Myers of Des Moines is hereby appointed assistant bill clerk in the Senate at a salary of $60.00 per month.

SECTION 5. That Harry Narey of Spirit Lake and Harry Breeding of Des Moines are hereby appointed assistant file clerks in the Senate and House respectively at salaries of $60.00 per month each.

SECTION 6. That Carl Peters of Reasoner, Samuel Diller of Des Moines, J. S. Dee of Shelby, and John H. Merrill of Des Moines are hereby appointed elevator attenders at a salary of $60.00 per month each.

SECTION 7. That Samuel Salts of Bernhart, J. E. Winder of Bedford, J. C. Smith of Garden Grove, F. M. Stone of Knoxville, C. B. Kennedy of Cedar Rapids, J. R. Brink of Creston, H. T. Barber of Macedonia, J. H. Morgan of Sioux City, C. F. Wright of Davenport, E. T. Harris, of Buxton, C. W. Carter of Chariton, and R. Boeman of Viola, are hereby appointed janitors at a salary of $60.00 per month each.

SECTION 8. That W. W. Hyzer of Guthrie Center is hereby appointed mail carrier at a salary of $90.00 per month.

SECTION 9. That the policemen, elevator tenders, and janitors shall be assigned to their respective duties by the custodian; the clerks in the document room by the Secretary of State; the clerk in the supply department by the Secretary of the Executive Council; the assistant bill and file clerks by the Secretary of the Senate and the Chief Clerk of the House; and the mail carrier by the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House.

S CTION 9%. That the Custodian, Secretary of State, Secretary of the Executive Council, President of the Senate and Speaker of the House respectively shall report the time of the employes under his direction to the Secretary of the Senate and Chief Clerk of the House, and that the time of the assistant bill and file clerks shall be certified in the same manner as that of the other employes of the respective Houses.

SECTION 10. That the Secretary of the Senate and the Chief Clerk of the House are hereby directed to prepare a pay-roll of said employes, the same to be countersigned by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House and presented to the Auditor of State.

SECTION 11. That the Custodian be authorized to employ such additional help as may be necessary to remove snow from the appoaches, porticos and walks about the capitol.

SECTION 12. That the Secretary of State be authorized to retain as many clerks hereby appointed to serve in the document room as he may deem necessary for a period of not exceeding two weeks after the adjournment of the Thirtieth General Assembly.

Senator Smith of Mitchell moved that rules be suspended, the joint resolution be considered engrossed and the reading just had be considered its third reading, which motion prevailed.
