LAWS OF A LOCAL NATURE.

AN ACT

To amend an act, passed March 7, 1835, entitled "An act to amend an act, to incorporate the village of Cleveland."

Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Ohio, That the committee created by virtue of the act, passed March, 7th, 1835, are hereby authorized to assess upon the property in said village, any sum of money expended by the trustees thereof, in grading and improving the streets in said village, by virtue of an act for that purpose, passed February 18, 1834, over and above the sum originally assessed and collected therefor, which new assessment, shall be made upon the same principle as the original assessment, according to the supposed benefit accruing to the property assessed.

Sec. 2. The committee, on the completion of the assessment roll, shall file it in the office of the recorder of said village, where it shall remain at least five days for examination, notice of which shall be given in one or more newspapers printed in said village: after which time, the committee may correct any errors that may have been discovered, and may also correct any inequalities in the assessment, by adding to, or deducting from the amount first assessed, after which, they shall file the amended roll with said recorder.

Sec. 3. The sums so assessed shall be added to the sums assessed by the committee, for damages under the act of March 7, 1835, and shall be a lien upon the property assessed, and shall be collected by the marshal, together with the sums assessed for damages, within four months after receiving the duplicate, as provided by the act of February 18, 1834, and in case of delinquency, the like interest and penalty shall be chargeable, as provided in said act.

Sec. 4. All persons claiming to be injured by the improvements, so as aforesaid made in said village, who shall omit to present their claims to the said committee, shall be deemed to have waived the same.

AN ACT

To incorporate the members of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Cadiz, in Harrison county.

Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Ohio, That Edmund Tipton, William Tingley; John Davis, William Boyce, Isaac Meek, Philip Trine and others, their associates, members of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Cadiz, in Harrison county, for the time being, and their successors, be, and the same are hereby created a corporation and body politic, by the name and style of the "Methodist Episcopal Church of Cadiz," and as such, shall remain and have perpetual succes

sion.

Sec. 2. That the members of said corperation shall convene on the first Monday of May next, and on the first Monday of May annually thereafter, ten days public notice having first been given, and elect nine trustees from their own body; who shall continue in office for one year, and until their successors shall have been chosen; a majority of whom shall form a quorum for the transaction of all the business of the corporation; they shall have power to fill all vacancies which may occur, from time to time, in their body, by death, resignation, or otherwise; and the person or persons chosen to fill such vacancies, shall continue in office until the next stated annual election, and until their successors be chosen.

Sec. 3. That said corporation shall be capable of receiving, acquiring, and holding, either by gift, grant, devise, or purchase, any estate, real or personal, for the sole use of said corporation: Provided, That the annual income of all such property, shall not exceed the sum of two thousand dollars; and all the estate so acquired, holden and possessed, by the said corporation, as well as all the estate acquired, holden and possessed, by the Methodist Episcopal Church, in the town of Cadiz, in said county, at the time said corporation may commence its corporate powers, the trustees thereof are hereby authorized and empowered to sell, lease, or otherwise invest; and the proceeds, rents, issues and profits thereof, to receive and dispose of, for the sole use and benefit of said corporation: Provided, That nothing in this act contained, shall be construed to authorize the corporation hereby created, to divert any real estate in Cadiz, which may have heretofore been conveyed or donated to, and in trust for the Methodist Episcopal Church, from the purposes and uses expressed in such deed or donation; and it shall be the duty of the trustees, at the annual meeting, on the first Monday of May, in each year, to make out for the inspection of the said corporation, an exhibit, containing a full and fair account of the receipts and disbursements of the preceding year.

Sec. 4. That said corporation, by its name aforesaid, shall be capable of suing and being sued, defending and being defended, pleading and being impleaded, in all courts having competent jurisdiction.

Sec. 5. That Matthew Simpson, Edmund Tipton, Robert M'Kee, James Poulson, William Tingley, Philip Trine, John Davis, Elijah Laisure and George White, shall be, and they are hereby constituted trustees of said corporation, to continue in office, from and after the passage of this act, until the first Monday of May, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-six, and until their successors shall be chosen.

Sec. 6. Any future Legislature shall have power to alter, amend or repeal this act: Provided, Such modification, or repeal shall not affect the title to any real or personal estate, acquired or conveyed under its provisions, or divert the same to any other purpose than originally intended. AN ACT

To change the name of John Pond to that of John M'Neal.

Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Ohio, That the name of John Pond, of the county of Clinton, be, and the same is hereby changed to that of John M'Neal: Provided, That nothing herein contained, shall operate or be construed to defeat or affect any right or interest acquired or vested in him by the name of John Pond.

AN ACT

To lay out and establish a State road, from East Liberty, in Logan county, to Kenton, in Hardin county.

Sec. 1. Be it enacted bo the General Assembly of the State of Ohio, That Job Garwood and Abner Snoddy, of Logan county, and John G. Marks, of Hardin county, are hereby appointed commissioners, and William Scott, Esq. of the county of Hardin, surveyor, to lay out and establish a State road; commencing at East Liberty, in Logan county; thence on the nearest and best route, to the town of Kenton, in Hardin county.

Sec. 2. That the said commissioners are hereby authorized to receive, and appropriate on said road, all such subscriptions and donations as may be made, for opening and improving the same.

Sec. 3. That the commissioners, and surveyor, as aforesaid, shall, in all respects, be governed by the laws in force, defining the mode of laying oct and establishing State roads; and should either of the commissioners or surveyor die, or remove out of the county, or refuse to serve, the
