Procure a foundation Bag of the size required with a Clasp, which may be obtained at any Berlin House. Use all 8-Thread German Wool, an oz. of Black, an oz. of Amber, an oz. of shaded Violet, an oz. of shaded Green, this will be sufficient for a Bag of small size only.

1st Row. With Black, make a chain somewhat longer than the required length, turn back, work a row of long stitches, 1 into every loop, cut off the Wool, commence at the other end. 2nd Row.-5 Black stitches, 5 Amber stitches.

3rd Row.-All Black.

4th Row.-5 Amber, 5 Violet.

5th Row.-5 Violet, 5 Amber.

6th Row.-5 Amber, 5 Violet.

Repeat from the 1st row, leaving out the foundation chain, to the 6th, including the 6th.

13th Row.-5 Violet, 5 Green.

14th Row.-5 Green, 5 Violet.

15th Row.-5 Violet, 5 Green.

Work the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rows again, then the 13th, 14th, and 15th; then the 4th, 5th, and 6th; then the 1st to the 6th

Bone Mesh, of an inch wide.

No. 12, Steel Mesh.

On a foundation net with steel mesh 55 stitches, net 24 rows or 12 diamonds,* then decrease by netting 2 loops together every 3rd row, at the beginning of the row only, till there are 18 rows or 9 diamonds, then decrease at the beginning of every row till there are only 20 stitches, cut off from the foundation, turn ends with the netting, on the row that was cut off, net the same as the other end commencing from, net 2 rows all round the mat, in the 1st row, netting at the 4 corners 3 stitches into 1 loop for 3 times. Count the number of stitches, and mark with colored cotton each corner knot. There should be 25 loops at each end, and 64 down each side.
