A PEN WIPER.

DESIGNED BY MRS. WARREN.

9 shades of Scarlet Wool, 1 skein of each shade, and 1 skein of Green Purse Silk. 16, Crochet Hook. De means Double Crochet.

1st Row. Commence with the darkest shade, make 6 chain, unite the ends by drawing the last loop through the first, not cut off the Wool.

2nd Row. Same shade, 2 De into every loop, there must be 12 De only, draw the last loop through the 1st, and continue 3rd row with same shade, without cutting off the Wool.

3rd Row. Same shade, a row of De working 2 De into every 3rd loop, there should now be 16 D°, not cut off the Wool, but continue 4th row with same shade.

4th Row. Same shade,* 5 chain, De down the 5 chain beginning in the 2nd loop, 2 De on the round, the 1st into the 1st loop on the round, repeat from,* 7 times more, there should be 8 points on the round. Cut off the Wool, draw it to the back, tie it securely and neatly. This must be done at every row where there is a change of shade.

5th Row. Next shade, a row of De all round, omitting 1 loop each side of the bottom of each point, and work 3 De into the centre loop at the top of each point, keeping each point 4 stitches only in depth.

6th Row.—3rd shade, same as last row only omit 2 loops at the bottom of each point.

7th Row.-4th shade, same as last row.

8th Row.-5th shade, same as last row.

9th Row.-Green Silk, De all round, making 3 De into the centre loop at the top of each point.

This completes the smallest or inner Circle.
