Fasten on the Wool to the top part of the back of the Shoe, and commence on the right side of the work which can be distinguished by the absence of the knots, work a row of D round the shoe making 14 D stitches across the instep, draw the Wool through the last stitch leaving a length to make up the Shoe. Fasten the Wool to the toe part.

1st Row. Work 14 stitches across to the other corner very tightly so as to draw it in.

2nd Row.-De on 3rd stitch of last row and continue till within 3 stitches.

3rd Row.-D on 2nd stitch and continue till within 1 stitch, the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th rows the same as the 3rd, till reduced to a point, draw the Wool through and fasten off, De round the outside of the Shoe to make it even.

Fasten the White Shetland Wool to the corner of the instep. 1st Row. With the finest Hook, 3 chain, De into every other loop across the instep, 3 chain, De into 1st and 2nd loop at the side of the shoe.

2nd Row.-Turn, 3 chain, De into centre of the 3 chain till the end of the row where make 3 chain, De into 1st and 2nd loop at the side. These 2 rows must be repeated 6 times more. This finishes the piece across the instep, draw the Wool through and fasten off.

Fasten the Shetland Wool to the top part of the back of the Shoe, to commence the leg.

1st Row.-3 chain, De into every other chain 3 times, this will bring to the instep, then 3 chain, D into centre loop of 3 across the instep, then on the other side repeat as before till the end, joining the Shoe round by De into the other side, now work 16 rounds thus, 3 chain, De into centre of 3, then make 1 chain, De into centre of 3 all round, then a row of Do.

Commence the fluting on the wrong side of the Shoe to make it turn over.

1st Row.-5 chain, De into every 3rd loop, twist the Wool twice over the Hook for the remaining long stitches, 9 long under the 5 chain making 1 chain between each, 3 chain, miss 1 chain of 5, Dc under next 5, 3 chain, repeat.

2nd Row.-Do on De, 3 chain, 9 long, that is 1 under every 1 chain in last row making 1 chain between each, the 9 long will come under the 3 chain, 3 chain, repeat.

4 more rows the same as the last, only in the last row make 2 chain instead of 3.

Make up the Shoe which if well worked will not require blocking; and draw a piece of Satin Ribbon through the 2nd row of the leg from the instep.

Be careful to observe the difference between working into the loop and under the chains; the latter is worked into the space under the chains.
