4th Row.- Next shade, D under the 7 chain, 8 chain, repeat.

5th Row.- Next shade, begin on the 1st loop from De stitch in last row, 4 D stitches, I chain, 4 more D stitches, omit to work on the Do stitch in last row, repeat.

6th Row.—Take the last shade but one, work exactly the same as last row.

This forms the bottom of the Nat.

1st Row.--- Draw a piece of Wire from some Black Ribbon Wire, sew this on the wrong side near the edge with Wool the same color as the edge, observe in sewing on the Wire that the shape of the points is preserved.

2nd Row.— Take the 2nd lightest shade, make a chain of 11 stitches only, and work 6 circles exactly the same as the 1st with this difference only, there will be 11 stitches instead of 12, sew these 6 circles round the centre circle, which circle should be on the wrong side, keeping the 6 circles on their right side, then sew 2 angles up at the side, but not the angle nearest to centre, this will leave 3 points on the top of each circle, this forms the inner cup, cut 6 pieces of Wire the length of the angles that are sewed up at the sides, double 1 end of each piece in a small Joop for the convenience of sewing on, then with the same color Wool as the outsides of the circles, sew the Wire neatly up where the circles are joined, this must be done on the right side, then bend the cup into shape.

3rd Row.—Now take the 4 lightest shades and work 6 circles the same as the last, only omitting the Do rows altogether instead of which work with the same color Wool as the last row, that is the 4th shade, Don D, 3 chain 3 long, under the 8 chain, 3 chain, repeat.

4th Rou.— Turn the Mat upside down, sew these 6 circles round the centre circle, keeping them all on the wrong side and attaching them by the 3 long stitches, then sew them attaching

them by the next 3 long stitches, when all are sewed cut 6 pieces of Wire of sufficient length to reach from the centre circle to the termination of the sewing, double one end, sew it on to the bottom or centre circle, twist the Wool over the Wire till it reaches the sewed part, then sew it securely on to the joins of the circles, then place the Mat in form.

This Mat will not easily get out of shape, and will wash repeatedly if required, having first picked it to pieces, and after washing lay the circles while damp separately between a cloth under a weight till dry, then re-make.
