Speaker of the Wisconsin Assembly:

RESPECTED SIR: I have the honor to inform you that the Good Templars of Dane county, in convention assembled at Madison, on the 21st inst., unanimously adopted the following resolution, and instructed me to present the same to the honorable body over which you preside. Esteemingly yours, JAMES ROSS.

Resolved, That this convention earnestly requests the members of the present Legislature, in session in this city, to consider their responsibility as representatives of the people of a great state, and in this view, to refrain from encouraging the liquor traffic by public or private drinking, so that the young men attending the edu cational establishments in this city, and tempted men, may not be at the risk of demoralization by their weighty example.

Mr. Lees moved that said communication be rejected.

On motion of Mr. Flint, the communication was referred to the committee on State Affairs.

RESOLUTIONS INTRODUCED.

Resolved, That the Assembly in conformity with the law of Congress on that subject will, at 11:30, A. M., of this, Tuesday, January 26, 1875, proceed to the election of United States Senator, to succeed the Hon. Matthew Hale Carpenter, and that such election shall be the special order for that hour.

On motion of Mr. Hudd, the rules were suspended and the resolution adopted.
