Anno Regni vicefimo tertio, &c. 271 Moft Excellent Majesty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiri ual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That there fhall be Bounty to be given and paid, without any Fee, Reward, paid on Exor Deduction whatsoever, a Bounty for British and every Yard of British and Irish Buckrams Irish Buckand Tillettings, and for every Yard of lettings, &c. British or Irish Linen, and of British ed, or dyed Callicoes and Cottons, or Cotton mixed in Great Bri with Linen, printed, painted, stained, or dyed, in Great Britain, of the Breadth of Twenty five Inches or more, which, before the printing, painting, ftaining, or dying thereof, fhall be under the Value of Five Pence per Yard, the Sum of One Halfpenny; and of the Value of Five Pence per Yard, and under the Value of Sixpence per Yard, the Sum of One Penny; and of the Value of Sixpence per Yard, and not exceeding the Value of Eighteen Pence per Yard, the Sum of One Penny Halfpenny; which, from and after the paffing of this Act, until the Twenty-eighth Day of March, One thoufand feven hundred and eighty-four, fhall be exported out of Great Britain, to Africa, America, Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar, or the Eaft Indies, in the fame Manner, and under the like Provifions, Conditions, Limitations, Penalties, and Forfeitures, as are mentioned and

An ACT for the more effectual Encouragement of the Manufactures of FLAX and Cotton in Great Britain.

1. WHEREAS it is of Confequence Preamble. that the Manufactures produ

ced from the Raw Materials of Flax and Cotton, employing and maintaining great Numbers of his Majefty's Subjects, fhould be preferved, promoted, and encouraged, but which are now greatly obftructed by the high Duties payable on Sope, Starch, and other Articles neceffarily employed and confumed therein; be it therefore enacted by the King's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That, from and after the First Day From Jan. 1. of January, One thousand seven hundred 1784, Manuand eighty-four, it shall and may be law-Flax and Cot

before a pro. ful to and for any Perfon or Perfons in the manufacturing of Flax or Cotton, and bringing the fame to a finifhed State for Sale, or in any Part of the Process or Prothem in each grefs thereof, and who fhall employ, fpend, nufacture, &c. and confume any Quantity or Quantities of Sope or Starch, in the preparing, bleaching, whitening, and bringing of Flax or Cotton to a finished Manufacture for Sale, or in any Part of the Progress of the fame, (excepting Sope employed, spent, and confumed in whitening new Linen in the Piece for Sale, the Drawbacks on which fhall be and remain the fame as by any former Act or Acts of Parliament), or to and for his, her, or their Overseers or Chief Workmen employed under him, her, or them, in thofe Works, or any of them, at the End of each Year from the Date of the Entry herein after directed to be made, or within Six Months thereafter, to make Proof by the Oath of the Perfon or Perfons who fhall fo employ, fpend, or confume the faid Sope or Starch, or of his, her, or their Overfeer or Chief Workman, before the Collector or Supervifor of Excife of the District or Divifion, or either of them, where Sope or Starch, or either of them, fhall be fo employed, fpent, and confumed, (who are hereby refpectively empowered and required to adminifter the fame); which faid Oath fhall fpecify the

Kinds and Quantities of the Manufactures fo made, prepared, whitened, or finished, and the Days between which and the Places where the fame were fo made, prepared, whitened, or finished refpectively, and the Quantities and Kinds of the Sope or Starch which were actually employed, fpent, and confumed therein; and that no Allowance or Drawback, by virtue of this or any other Act or Acts of Parliament, was before made to fuch Manufacturer or Manufacturers, or for his, her, or their .: Benefit, of the Duties payable for the Sope or Starch fo fpecified in fuch Oath, or any Part thereof; and that, upon the making Collector, out of every fuch Oath, the faid Collector of of the Money Excife, out of the Money in his Hands of the Duty which fhall have arifen for the Duty upon Sope, granted by an Act made in the Tenth Year of the Reign of her late Majesty Queen Anne, (intituled, An Act for Cap. 19.; laying Jeveral Duties upon all Sope and Paper made in Great Britain, or imported into the fame; and upon chequered and friped Linens imported; and upon certain Silks, Callicoes, Linens, and Stuffs, printed, painted, or fained; and upon feveral Kinds of Stamped Vellum, Parchment, and Paper; and upon certain printed Papers, Pamphlets, and Advertifements; for raifing the Sum of Eighteen hundred thousand Pounds by way of Lottery, towards her Majesty's Supply; and for licenfing
