An ACT to remove a Doubt concerning fuch
Part of an Act made in the laft Seffion of
Parliament as relates to the afcertaining of
the Duties upon the Importation of certain
LINEN Cloth of the Manufacture of
Ruffia, &c.

SI. WH HEREAS by an Act made in the Preamble, relaft Seffion of Parliament, inti- in an Act of tuled, An Act for the better fecuring and the laft Ser further Improvement of the Revenues of Cufom, Excife, Inland and Salt Duties; and for encouraging the Linen Manufacture of the Ifle of Man, and for allowing the Importation of feveral Goods, the Produce and Manufacture of the faid Island, under certain Reftrictions and Regulations; it is amongst other Things enacted, That from and after the First Day of June, One thousand feven hundred and fixty-five, the Duties payable upon the Importation of unrated Linen Cloth, of the Manufacture of Ruffia, fhall ceafe and determine; and that all the Provifions and Claufes contained in any former Act or Acts of Parliament, fo

far as the fame relate to the afcertaining the Value of fuch unrated Linens, according to the Oaths or Affirmations of the Importers, fhall be repealed and made void; and that in lieu of the faid Duties thereby repealed, from and after the faid First Day of June, One thousand seven hundred and fixty-five, all Linen Cloth or Diaper of Ruffia, not otherwise rated, which fhall be imported into Great Britain, fhall be rated to pay the Old Subfidy, and all other Subfidies or Duties due for the fame, according to the feveral Rates and Values in the faid recited A& mentioned; that is to fay, all Linen Cloth and Diaper of Ruffia, not otherwise rated, exceeding Thirty-one Inches and one half of an Inch in Breadth, and not exceeding Forty-five Inches in Breadth, for every One hundred and twenty English Ells, Six Pounds; and for all Linen Cloth and Diaper of Ruffia, not otherwise rated, exceeding Forty-five Inches in Breadth, for every One hundred and Twenty English Ells, Ten Pounds; and in that Proportion for any greater or lefs Quantities of any of the faid Goods: And whereas feveral Quantities of Linen Cloth and Diaper of Ruffia, exceeding twenty-two Inches and one half of an Inch, and not exceeding Thirty-one Inches and one half of an Inch in Breadth, have, fince the said

First Day of June, One thousand feven hundred and fixty-five, been imported into Great Britain, which Sort of Linen formerly paid Duty ad valorem; and the same being omitted to be exprefsly rated in the faid recited Act, Doubts have arisen, whether the Duties upon fuch Linen are to be afcertained according to the former Method by the Oath of the Importer, or in Proportion to the Rates affixed by the faid recited Act upon Ruffia Linen, not otherwife rated, exceeding in Breadth Thirtyone Inches and one half of an Inch: And whereas the Proportion of fuch Rates, when applied to Ruffia Linen exceeding Twenty-two Inches and one half of an Inch in Breadth, is Four Pounds for every One hundred and twenty English Ells: Now to obviate thofe Doubts, and for fupplying fuch Omiffion, May it please your Majefty, That it may be declared and enacted, and be it declared and enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That all Ruffia Cloth, Linen Cloth and Diaper of Rufia, not o-rated, and extherwife rated, exceeding Twenty-two ceeding 224 Inches and one half of an Inch, and not Breadth, but exceeding Thirty-one Inches and one half 31 Inches, of an Inch in Breadth, which have been imported after ift June 1765, or to pay as here

or fhall be imported into any Port or Place within Great Britain, from and after the faid First Day of June, One thoufand seven hundred and fixty-five, shall be rated to pay the Old Subfidy granted by the Act of Tonnage and Poundage made in the Twelfth Year of the Reign of King Charles the Second, and all other Subfidies, Impofts, and Duties whatfoever, payable for the fame, according to the Rate and Value of Four Pounds for every One hundred and twenty English Ells of fuch Linen, in the fame Manner, and by fuch Rules, Ways, and Means, as if the fame had been particularly and exprefsly fo rated and valued in the faid recited Act made the last Seffion of Parliament; any Thing therein contained to the contrary notwithstanding,

An ACT to amend and enforce the Acts of the Eighteenth, Twenty-firft, and Thirtyfecond Years of the Reign of his late Majefty King George the Second, for the more effectual preventing the fraudulent Importation and Wearing of CAMBRICKS and FRENCH LAWNS.

1.WHEREAS an Act paffed in the Preamble, reEighteenth Year of the Reigns Geo. II.

of his late Majefty King George the Second, intituled, An Act for prohibiting the Wearing and Importation of Cambricks and French Lawns; and alfo another Act 21 Geo. II. paffed in the Twenty-firft Year of the Reign of his faid late Majefty, intituled, An Act for explaining, amending, and enforcing an Act made in the Eighteenth Year of the Reign of his present Majefty, intituled, An Act for prohibiting the Wearing and Importation of Cambricks and French Lawns; and another Act made in the and 32 Geo. Thirty-II.
