MISCELLANEOUS PRAYERS.

ORD JESU, be Thou our helper, and forsake us not in the time of trouble, or of temptation: as Thy Disciples came to Thee in the tempest, and aroused Thee, and urgently called upon Thee to save them from perishing, and as Thou didst by the word of Thy mouth rebuke the winds and the sea, so that there was a great calm: even so do Thou hear our prayers, and keep us from falling, and save us from sin, and subdue in us all unholy desires and affections, and grant us Thy peace all the days of our life. Thou, O LORD, art our Refuge and Strength, and though we walk in the midst of the valley of the shadow of death, we will fear no evil, for Thou art with us, the waterfloods shall not overflow us, neither shall the deep swallow us up. With Thee we fear no ill, for Thou art

our SAVIOUR: with Thee we fear not death, for Thou, LORD JESU, art our life, Who livest and reignest with the FATHER and the HOLY GHOST, GOD, for ever and ever. Amen.

O LORD GOD, FATHER Almighty,

purify the secrets of our hearts, and mercifully wash out all the stains of sin: Grant, O LORD, that being cleansed from our transgressions by Thy merciful lovingkindness, we may without any terror, but in loving expectation and tender trustfulness, await the coming of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, Who with Thee and the HOLY GHOST liveth and reigneth, GOD, for ever and ever. Amen.

LORD JESUS CHRIST, the Author

and Finisher of our faith, Who in Thy mercy hast chosen us to be Thy children in the true fold of Thy Holy Church Grant that we be not fainthearted or discouraged, but that we may with our whole heart believe unto righteousness, and with our mouths confess unto salvation, for Thou, LORD, Who art over all, art also rich unto all that call upon Thee. Upon Thee, O LORD, do we believe, and upon Thee do we call.

Hear us, O LORD, for Thy loving-kindness is great. Amen.

COME, LORD JESUS, seek Thy servant :

66

come, Thou Good Shepherd, seek Thy wearied, wandering sheep. Come not with a rod, but with the spirit of love and mercy. Thou hast prepared for us a "table in the wilderness." With Thee we shall "lack nothing." Thou shalt lead us forth in a 'green pasture" and "beside the waters of comfort." "Thy loving-kindness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our life," yea even through the valley of the shadow of death, for even there we need fear no evil, even there Thou shalt be with us, Thy rod and Thy staff shall comfort us." "Even so, come, LORD JESUS." Amen.

HOLY LORD JESUS, Who didst will to suffer alone, that we in our hours of solitude and suffering should not be tempted to despair; send Thy HOLY SPIRIT into our hearts that we may not be left comfortless: in all our trials and temptations may He guide and direct us, may He strengthen and protect us, and finally lead us to the Life Everlasting. Amen.

O

JESU, Who art the true Riches, the Source and the Centre of all desire and all affection, of all honour and all grace set our affection on things above and not on things on the earth, may our lives be hid with Thee! Thou art in Heaven and we upon earth, and yet Thou art on earth, and with us by Thy sacraments,—with us even to ages of ages, until all ages end: may we be so with Thee now that when our time comes we may no longer or for a time, and on earth be with Thee, but in the Eternal Mansions for ever and ever. Amen.

LORD JESU, Sea of Holy Love,

Thou Who art our GOD and our SAVIOUR, Whose depth no man can fathom, Whose breadth no man can compass, unto Whose height none can attain, have mercy upon us! Like as the hart desireth the waterbrooks, even so may we long after Thee. Unto Thee may we seek, from this barren and dry land where no water is, for in Thee is rest, and refreshment, and light, and love, and abundance of all those good things which Thou hast laid up for all that love and trust in Thee, Who livest and reignest with the

FATHER and the HOLY GHOST, one GOD, world without end. Amen.

TAK

'AKE away from us, O LORD JESU, all blindness of heart: let us not hide from ourselves our sins and iniquities, for they are not hid from Thee. Teach us to know ourselves even as we are known by Thee. May we be at peace with each other, and above all at peace with Thee, Who art "the Peace which passeth all understanding," Who art not only the "Vision of Peace," but the Prince of Peace, very Peace, and Truth, and Light, and Life, and Holy Love. Come near, LORD JESU, and look upon our souls! Dost Thou weep at the sight of our sins, and shall we not bitterly lament them? We sin, and Thou weepest! Evermore, dear LORD JESU, may we desire to unite ourselves to Thee: ever may we strive that no sin should come between our souls and Thy Love: do Thou, O LORD, hide Thy face, not from our souls, but from our sins, and blot out all our iniquities, Who livest and reignest with the FATHER and the HOLY GHOST, one GOD, world without end. Amen.
