On the 20th of May, publick Notice was given That his Majefty had been pleas'd to appoint Richard Earl of Burlington, lately return'd from Travel, to be Lord Lieutenant of the Weft Riding of the County of York, and of the City of Tork, and County of the fame, and the Anfty of York 2dly, Robert Clavering, Clerk and Master of Arts, to be Hebrew Profeffor in the Univerfity of Oxford; Major Thomas Talmash, to be Lieutenant Go vernor of Montferrat; William Wynne, Efq; to be Standard-bearer to his Majefty's Band of Pen fioners; and to direct Letters Patent to pass the. The Eail of Halifax, first Lord Commiffioner of the Treasury, dying on the 19th of this Month, (of which further Notice will be taken hereafter) the King did not long befitate whom he hould name to fucceed him: For two or three Days after, it was publickly declared, that his Majefty had been pleafed to appoint the Right Honourable Charles Earl of Carlisle, Sir Richard Onflow, Bart. Chancellor and Under-Treasurer of the Exchequer, Sir William St. Quintin, Bart. Edward Wortley, and Paul Methren, Efqs; to be Commiffioners for the Execution of the Offices of the Treasurer of his Majefty's Exchequer.

At the lame Time (May 23d) it was made known, that his Majefty had directed a Commif fion to pafs the Great Seal conftituting the Lord Archbishop of Canterbury for the time being, the Lord Chancellor of Great Britain or Keeper of the Great Seal of Great Britain for the time being, the Lord Archbishop of York for the time being, the Bishops of London, Winchester, Lincoln, Norwich, Ely, and Gloucefter, for the time being, the Lord Mayor of London for the time being; his Majefty's Attorney and Solicitor General for the time being, Sir Gilbert Heathcoat and Sir Charles Piers, Knights and Aldermen,the Official Principal of the Arches and Judge of the Prorogative Court of Canterbury for the time being, the Judge of his

Sheriffs of London for the time being, the Dean and Refidentiaries of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, London, for the time being, the Surveyor General of his Majefty's Works, for the time being, Sir Henry St. George, Sir Ifaac Newton, Knights, William Falkner and Whitlock Bulftrode, Efqs; to be Commiffioners for carrying on, finishing and adorning the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, London; as alfo to appoint William Caulfield, Efq; to be one of the Juftices of the Court of King's Bench in Ireland.

On the 24th of May, the Princess Corolina, Younger Daughter of his Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, arriv'd at St. James's, having been receiv'd at Greenwich by his Grace the Duke of Somerfet, a Detachment of Guards attending on the Occafion.

Three Days after (May 27th) the following Addrefs was prefented to his Majefty by his Grace the Lord Archbishopp of York, accompanied by the rest of the Commiffioners.

The humble Addrefs of the Commiffioners appointed for building Fifty New Churches in and about the Cities of London and Westminster, and Suburbs thereof.

May it please your Majefty.

E crave Leave humbly to reprefent to your Majefty, that having used our beft Diligence to give Difpatch to the Business of the Commiffion intrufted

with

with us; and there being fome Chappels that may foon be ready to be made Parish Churches, and fome Churches in good Forwardness, we find our felves under a Difficulty how to proceed in the perfecting the Establishmentof fuch Chappels and Churches, for want of a due Maintenance for the Minifters who are to attend the Service of the fame :. Without which, as we conceive, no Bishop can regularly confecrate a Church or Chappel, nor can we effectually treat with any Patron, concerning the Right of Patronage, which by Act of Parliament we are directed and empower'd to do, nor will the Pious end of this Commiffion for advancing the true Religion as pofefs'd in our Church be fully answer'd, untill a fufficient and afcertained Maintenance be provided.

Obliged by thefe Confiderations, and invited by your Majesty's mest gracious Promife that this good Work fhall find all the Encouragement you can give it: We prefume to approach your Majesty with our most humble Request, that you wou'd vouchsafe to perfect the glorious Defign begun by your pious Predeceffor our late moft Excellent Queen, by recommending it in the Manner your Majefty fhall think more proper, to the Care and Wisdom of your Parliament to provide fuch Maintenance.

To which his Majefty was pleased to make the following moft gracious Answer

Shall very readily comply with what you defire, being refolved to embrace all Opportunities of encouraging and perfecting a Work in which the Honour of the Church of England, and the Advancement of our Holy Religion are fo much concerned.

The fame Day (May 27th) publick Notice was given, that his Majefty had been pleafed to declare the Regiment of Foot,commanded by Piercy Kirke, Efq; to be her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales's own Regiment of Foot; and to fign a Commiffion, conftituting the faid Piercy Kirke, Colonel

Colonel of the faid Regiment. As also that his Majefty had been pleafed to appoint Daniel Blake, George Clarke, John Weye, Thomas Sutton, and Moore Molyneux, Efqrs; to be Commiffioners for Regulating and Licenfing Hackney Coaches and Hackney Chairs.

About the beginning of May, dyed Francis Clark, Efq; Knight of the Shire for the Country of Oxford.

On the 5th dyed the Hon. Mr. Ratcliffe, a Roman Catholick, Brother to the Earl of Derwentwater.

About the fame Time dyed the Lady Anne, Robarts, Sifter to the late Earl of Kildare, and Wife to the Hon. Francis Robarts, Efq; Uncle to the Earl of Radnor.

On Sunday the 15th, dyed Thomas Halley, Efq; late Kt. of the Shire for the County of Hertford.

The fame Day, (May 15th) Charles Montague Earl of Halifax, first Lord Commiffioner of the Treasury being at Monfieur de Devenvoirde, one of the Ambassadors Extraordinary from the States General, where he was invited to dine, found himfelf very much indifpofed; whereupon, before they were fat down at Table, he was carryed home. The King being inform'd of it his Majefty immediately fent to both his Phyficians, (viz Dr. John Shadwel, fole English Phyfician in Ordinary, and Dr. Steigerthall, his Majefty's German Phyfician) who having confulted with Sir Richard Blackmore; and Dr. Mead, judg'd his Distemper to be a Pleurely attended with a high Fever. whereupon they caufed him to be blooded, and afterwards blifter'd. His Fever continuing with great Violence, and other bad Symptoms, his Lordship expired on Thursday, the 19th of May, about one
