In conformity to the act of the congress of the United States, entitled an act for the encouragement of learning by securing the copies of maps, charts, and books to the authors and proprietors of such copies "during the times, therein mentioned;" and also to an act, entitled an act for the encouragement of learning by securing the copies of 66 maps, charts, and books to the authors and proprietors of such copies "during the times, therein mentioned; and extending the benefits there"of to the arts of designing, engraving, and etching historical and other prints." By the permission of the corporation of Harvard College, the arithmetical part of Dr. Webber's Mathematics is here published in a separate volume, with a view to the accommodation of those learners, who do not proceed to the other branches of the science; and also of instructors who are preparing scholars for the University.
