General Remarks on the two last classes." Arithmetic seems to be the favorite study, and in which the greatest readiness is exhibited. Indistinctness of pronunciation, from too great rapidity of utterance, was the only defect observable in these classes. In other respects, Masters and Scholars deserve praise.

The Committee have also awarded prizes for regular attendance to 1. Ashootosh Mookerjee-First Class.

2. Radhanath Dey-Second Class.

3. Gopeenath Coondoo-Third Class.

The School Buildings are now progressing towards completion; the classes however are still School Buildings. held in the house placed at the disposal of the Committee by Babu Puddum Lochun Mundul one of the Members.

"The total amount of Schooling Fees collected from 1st October 1852 to 31st March 1854, was Company's Rupees 949.

"The only change in the Instructive Establishment that has occurred during the year under report, Changes. was the promotion of the Third Master, Babu Koonjobehary Chuckerbutty, to the Head Mastership of the Barrackpore School, and the appointment of Babu Jodunath Ghose in his place.

"Candidates, numbered one to four, having obtained upwards of 50 per cent. on the total number of marks (350,) are entitled to Junior Scholarships, which the Committee

recommend be bestowed upon them, should the number, allotted to this School by the Council, permit it.

"The Committee regret to have to record that Bholadoss Mookerjee was detected, in the Examination Room, in endeavouring to use unfair means in answering the History Questions. The boy having already left the School and obtained Government employ, they have not inflicted the penalty attached to such misconduct, simply because they have not the power, under the circumstances, to enforce it.

"The general Examination of the School was conducted by the Members of the Local Committee, Examination. assisted by the Head Master who took the junior classes. The result is stated below:Junior Section, First Class, First Division, consisting of eight pupils, average age, 17}.

The two most distinguished boys are Mohendronarian Mookerjee and Okhoychunder Roy, to whom the Committee recommend, that certificates of Honor be granted. The gentlemen who examined them in Mathematics, Geography and Grammar, have passed a very high encomium upon these boys.

First Class, Second Division, containing 12 pupils; average age, 15.

The two best boys in this class are Mohendronarain Sing and Shoshebhosun Banerjee, who are reported by all the examiners to have acquitted themselves with great credit. The Committee beg to recommend both these boys for prizes. The other boys, comprising this class, are also considered to have passed creditable examinations.

Second Class, consisting of 34 boys; average age, 14-nearly. Teacher, Babu Womesh Chunder Ghose.

This class passed generally a very satisfactory examination. Pitumber Dey, Hurrischunder Roy, Poornuchunder Doss, and Chunder Kanto Mitter are the best boys, and have been deemed to merit prizes.
