other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows.

21. I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints and prevailed against them,

22. Until the ancient of days came and judgment was given to the saints of the Most High, and the time came when the sainta possessed the kingdom.

The Babyloninan empire was symbolized by a lion with ot gles wings; the Medo Persian, by a bear with three ribs in the mouth of it, between its teeth; the Macedonian, by a leopard; with four wings of a fowl upon his back. All these were repre sented by ferocious monsters; but for the fourth beast, the Roman empire, there was nothing in creation that had any resem blance of it-therefore it was a monstrous beast without a name, dreadful and terrible beyond description, with great iron teeth, and nails of brass, with ten horns in its head; and another little horn came up after them, before whom three of the former horns were plucked up by the roots. But though this terrible beast is not named; yet the Roman empire, the ten kingdoms and popery, are as clearly and plainly pointed out, as if they were all called by their names. We have the most authentic historical facts of the destruction of the Roman em pire in detail by many of the best writers. We also have the rise of the ten horns or kingdoms, into which the empire was divided by the most indubitable history. The most celebrated and respectable writers have given us their names and places. Machiavel a very unconscious and surprising interpreter of scripture and not knowing what he was about, gives the following:-1. The Ostrogoths in Moesia. 2. The Visigoths in Pannonia. 3. The Sueves and Alans in Gascoigne and Spain. 4. The Vandals in Africa. 5. The Franks in France. 6. The Burgundians in Burgundy. 7. The Heruli and Turingi in Italy. 8. The Saxons and Angles in Britain. 9. The Huns in Hungary. 10. The Lombards at first upon

the Darube, afterwards in Italy. Sir Isaac Newton numerates them thus:-1. The kingdom of the Vandals and Alans, in Spain and Africa. 2. The kingdom of the Suevians in Spain. 3. The kingdom of the Visigoths. 4. The kingdom of the Alans in Gallia. 5. The kingdom of the Burgundians. 6. The kingdom of the Franks. 7. The kingdom of the Britons. 8. The kingdom of the Huns. 9. The kingdom of the Lombards. 10. The kingdom of Ravenna. Besides these ten horns or kingdoms of the fourth empire, there was to spring up among them another little horn, before whom three of the former fell, or before whom three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots. St. Cyril of Jerusalem one of the primitive fathers, in the Christian Church, in commenting on the prophecies of Daniel, (which were before the rise of antichrist) “says the fourth beast, shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall exceed all the kingdoms; but that this is the empire of the Romans, ecclesiastical interpreters have delivered. For the first that was made famous, was the kingdom of the Assyrians; the second was that of the Medes and Persians together; and after these, the third, was that of the Macedonians; and the fourth kingdom, was now that of the Romans. Afterwards, Gabriel interpreting, saith, Its ten horns are ten kings that shall arise, and after them shall arise another king, who shall exceed in wickedness all before him: not only the ten he saith, but also all who were before him; and he shall depress three, that he himself may reign the eighth, he shall speak words, saith he, against the Most High.”

“As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away, yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time." When the dominion was taken away from the other beasts, their bodies were not destroyed, because the same spirit of tyranny, misrule, oppression, cruelty, idolatry and wickedness, contempt of God's law and government, and disregard of the rights of their fellow men lived in, and actuated all these tyrants of the earth, in all their conduct. It was but a

succession or a continuation of the same wicked misrule that . began with the tyrant Nimrod, the founder of kings-craft, idol. atry and priest-craft-hence the metaphor Mystery Babylon, the great, the mother of harlots and abominations of the eart'). So it is said by the holy spirit speaking to John, of the fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly it had a wound by a sword and did live; and his deadly wound was healed. That is the same diabolical spirit that lives in his successor, Popery; and the horns of the beast that was and is not and yet is.

All respectable commentators are agreed that England or Bri

one of these horns. Now I want to know when and how, she ceased to be one of these horns. Is it because there is an immense body of true and pious christians there? The excellent of the earth. Their wicked government has but too long and too successfully, hid themselves behind this cloak.Even most of her excellent writers, have been misled by this same mistake. They put me in mind of a certain hypochondriac, who was otherwise an intelligent and sensible man, who had scven fields on his farm; he never could make out more than six, he still neglected to count the one he stood in. So far from being true, that the government of England is not now one of the horns of the beast, the mystic Babylon, it is the very citadel of the spiritual Babylon.

If blasphemy is a characteristic feature, we have abundant proof at hand: "His gracious majesty applied to a poor loathsome worm of the dust, their king: and "his grace the Duke of Wellington”!!

His grace the duke of York, and Bishop of Osnaburgh, and Commarder in chief of the army, sceing a handsome woman (the wife of a certain man by the name of Clarke, a bricklayer) in the streets of Lordon, he took her off, put her in a plice, and maintained her in the most extravagant style, wrung

from the hard earnings of the people. Her expenses were so unbounded that she amassed vast sums of money for commissions in the army and places in the church. It became so shameless

and there were so many aggrieved, that it was at length taken before Parliament. See “Memoirs of Mrs. Mary Ann Clarke.” And this man and his brother bishops have the title of "His grace, the Bishop of

Right Reverend Father in God!!!!!!! Away with all such horrid blasphemy: so revolting to reason, to religion, and common sense. But let not the christain, the humble faithful follower of the meek and lowly Jesus retain any of these trappings of this mother of harlots. We need no doctors of divinity in the gospel ministry. Even the the pious, chaste, amiable and virtuous Joseph, learned to swear why the life of Pharaoh," having been long conversant with the profligate manners of an Egyptian court.

There is no intimation given in the divine prophecies of any of the horns of the beast, being destroyed or broken off but the three that were plucked up by the roots before the little horn. But the English governtment, as well as the rest of the horns that constitute the body of the beast will continue to be so, till the final destruction of the whole hellish fabric, of which she is the main pillar, which is just at hand.

Rev. xvii, 16, 17. “And the ten horns which thou sawest, upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire: for God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.”

“Dan. vii, ll, I beheld because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake. I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame.

Let it be kept in mind that all these tyrants, as masters of the world from Nimrod down to the present day, claim the whole earth. Any of the other governments of the world are but colonies or territories of the sameSpiritul Babylon. And all alike partaking of the same spirit of the misrule of the few over the many, the same spirit of idolatry and disregard for God and may.

Dan, vit, 23. “Thus he said, the fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down and break itin pieces. 21 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings(or kingdoms) that shall arise; & another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the ir t, and he shall subdue three kings. 25 And he shall speak great words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and think to change times and laws; and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

26 But the judgement shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. 27 And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

The prophet here has a revelation of all the vicisitudes and changes that were to take place not in a part or a section, or a district of the world, or of the church; but of the whole world and the whole church, from the repeopling of the earth after the deluge to the days of the milleniel glory of the church; for the church is one, whether Jewish or Christian, with the same faith the same gospel, the same salvation. These four great beasts, or empires, were but a continuation of the same tyranny, idolatry, oppression, diabolical cruelty, and wickedness, that began with Nimrod. This succession of tyrants were all masters of the world. If there were other governments at any time in the world, they were but colonies of the ancient Babylon, or parts of the four monstrous ferocious beasts which the prophet had seen, and parts of the terrible image which Nebuchadnezzar saw. There no doubt were a few, in the first ages, of the descendants of Shem and Japheth, who kept up the true worship of God, & the patriarchal form of government before the days of Abraham; but they had so universally, be
