Did the rulers receive his instructions with pleasure?

Do you think Jesus prayed for the wicked Pharisees, who tried to kill him, when he was there?

Do you pray for those who injure you ? 2 IN the morning, where did he come ?

But did he approve of her sin ?

What did he tell her ?

May not all sinners, who repent, be forgiven? At the day of judgment, will not these Pharisees be condemned for their hidden wickedness?

Should you not repent and seek the guidance of your heavenly Father, that you may sin,

no more?

Will you pray for this?

Will you watch against all temptation to sin? What does the conduct of Jesus in this case show?

LESSON XXIV.

Jesus again declares Himself the Son of God.
CH. viii. 12-29.

12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.

14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go. 15 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge

[blocks in formation]

19 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.

20 These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.

21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye

cannot come.

22 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? Because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.

23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.

26 I have many things to say, and to judge of you but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. 27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.

28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

WHERE was Jesus, in the last lesson ?
What relation was there given ?

12 JESUS begins to teach the people about himself. What did Jesus say he was?

In Luke 1: 79. what is said of the people being
in darkness ?

Is this the darkness of night, or of ignorance?
How was Jesus the light of the world?

What was promised to those who followed him?
Are the teachings of Jesus the light that directs
to eternal life?

What is the condition of those countries which have no Bible?

13 THEN What did the Pharisees say?

Does it always follow, because a man speaks of himself, that he does not speak the truth? What evidence had he given them that he was the Messenger of God? Chap. 5:36. 14 DID Jesus assert that he did speak the truth? What did he know which they could not tell? Did the miracles of Jesus show that he was more than man?

15 How did they judge?

Did he mean by this, they were full of prejudice and hatred ?

Did Jesus condemn, or judge any man, in this way?

16 WHAT was his judgment?

What reason did he give?

Did all the teachings and decisions of Jesus agree with God's will?

17 WHAT maxim in their law did he repeat? Where is it said, the testimony of two men is to be believed?- Deut. 17: 6.

18 DID he bear witness of himself?
Who beside, bore the same testimony?
In_what manner, except in his word, had the
Father borne testimony that Jesus was his
Son? Matt. 3: 17. 17: 5.

Should they not, then, have received the testi-
mony of Jesus and the Father?

19 THEN what did they say ?

Whom did they not know?

Were they guilty on this account?

If they had known and received him, whom
beside would they have known?

20 WHERE was Jesus when he said these things?
In Mark 12:41. what is said of the treasury?
Was this one of the rooms in the temple?
Did any person attempt to take him?

What was the reason?

21 THEN What did Jesus say of himself? To what place did he refer?

What did he say of them?

Can any who die in their sins go where Jesus

is ?

Are you not in your sins?

22 WHAT did the Jews say to this?

Did they seem to understand what Jesus meant? Do you really think they desired to know his meaning?

If a man in his senses kills himself by design, can he be saved? - Rev. 21: 8.

--

23 FROM whence did Jesus say they were? And from whence was he?

Were they governed by wicked and worldly feelings?

By what kind of feeling was he governed, in all he did and said?
