Sewer Work: Routes Nos. 19 & 22, Section No. 1.- Sewer construction on this section has been practically completed. There were 2,462 linear feet of sewers built during the year, making a total of 12,118 linear feet built to December 31, 1917.

Routes Nos. 19 & 22, Section No. 1-A.- Record drawings of new sewers in plan and profile for this section were completed, and the sewers turned over to the President of the Borough of The Bronx for future maintenance and control.

Station Finish:outes Nos. 19 & 22, Sections Nos. 1 and 1-A. The contract for station finish for Routes Nos. 19 & 22, Sections Nos. 1 and 1-A, was let to the Seventh Avenue Construction Company for $239,616.05, on February 10, 1917.

Work was started on this contract, but owing to inability to meet labor conditions and obtain materials it will not, it is estimated, be completed before June, 1918.

The stations showing the most progress are the 143d Street, 149th Street, Longwood Avenue and Hunts Point Road stations, with the Brook Avenue and Cypress Avenue stations showing the least. The rough plumbing and hollow tile work and electrical conduit work are complete. Plastering is complete in about five out of six stations; in about four out of six stations glazed tile and stairway construction is complete, and railings are erected in about three stations. None of the ticket booths has been erected. ·

The following tabulation gives the work done under the principal items of this contract, from the beginning of construction to December 31, 1917, and the total estimated value of work completed during the same period:

Track Installation: Routes Nos. 19 & 22, Sections Nos. 1, 1-A and 2.- This work is covered by a contract let to Terry & Tench Co., Inc., on June 27, 1917, the approximate contract price of the complete contract being $363,860. This contract also includes work on the easterly branch of Sections Nos. 14 and 15 of Route No. 5.

A new feature was incorporated in this contract, to the effect that the contractor is furnished a specified amount of structural material, a list of which is given in the contract. Should more material be required than is furnished to the contractor, he is compelled to buy it on his own account. This clause was inserted due to the fact that the City has only a limited amount of material that it can obtain from its existing material contracts, it not being considered desirable to purchase additional material at the present time, due to excessive prices on account of the war.
