Use all fresh vegetables as brought in, and surplus for suppers. The cooking and general service of meals is good. Cleanliness obtains in all handling of food and of the utensils. The steam cookers are modern and the range ample for all needs. FUEL; HEATING AND LIGHTING Ample supplies of both hard and soft coal are now on hand. Storage space is restricted, necessitating the surplus being dumped on the open ground. The grade of the coal presents no especial fire room difficulties and is reported as generally of fair quality. A steam pressure of 90 pounds is maintained. The electric lighting is a purchased service and is reported ample, night and day. FARM, GARDEN AND DAIRY The farm and garden plantings have been doubled in acreage this year (36). Grain and hay have been plentiful but the general vegetable crops have been unfavorably affected by draught. Potatoes are harvested, a yield of nine hundred bushels, where formerly eighteen hundred bushels were received. The dairy is in good condition, averaging one thousand pounds of milk a day. The cattle were T. B. tested in April last and found clear. The herd numbers forty-six of which thirty-six are now milking. The feed is grain, hominy, silo-corn, crushed oats and cotton seed meal. They look in fine condition. The dairyman is a competent man. The stables are clean and all equipment was found in good order and properly placed. HOUSEKEEPING CONDITIONS The usual visitation to all buildings and rooms was made and uniform degree of neatness and order found. Dormitories are scrupulously clean and the bedding well laundered. All windows have shades. The whole equipment bespeaks a carefully planned treatment of housekeeping matters. Nightgowns are providel. and these are neatly arranged over head posts of bed exposed to air and light. The linen closets are orderly, well binned and indexed. Clothing is economically repaired. General supervision rests with a supervising matron, who is also a trained nurse. THE LAUNDRY The present temporary structure and equipment will soon be retired and the new laundry put into operation, notwithstanding the old service has been efficient. Linen and clothing throughout reflect careful treatment. REPAIRS IN GENERAL Painting in season and general carpentry attention is prompt. Sanitary repairs are promptly made. All equipment is practically new. Respectfully submitted, H. M.
