the Lord, shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first, 1 Thess. iv. 15, 16.

to be afflicted, and shall kill you: | alive, and remain unto the coming of and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake, xxiv. 9. Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God, Acts xiv. 22. Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution, 2 Tim. iii. 12.

Νυνὶ δὲ Χριστὸς ἐγήγερται ἐκ νεκρῶν, ἀπαρχὴ τῶν κεκοιμημένων ἐγένετο.

Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. VER. 25.

Δεῖ γὰρ αὐτὸν βασιλεύειν, ἄχρις οὗ ἂν 9ῇ πάντας τοὺς ἐχθροὺς ὑπὸ τοὺς πόδα αὐτοῦ.

VER. 22.

“Ωσπερ γὰρ ἐν τῷ Ἀδὰμ πάντες ἀποθ‐ νήσκουσιν, οὕτω καὶ ἐν τῷ Χριστῷ πάντες ζωοποιηθήσονται.

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

VER. 23.

Εκαστος δὲ ἐν τῷ ἰδίῳ τάγματι· ἀπαρ· χὴ Χριστὸς, ἔπειτα οἱ Χριστοῦ, ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ αὐτοῦ.

But every man in his own order: a Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.

VER. 27.

Πάντα γὰρ ὑπέταξεν ὑπὸ τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ. Ὅταν δὲ εἴπῃ ὅτι πάντα ὑποτέτακται, δῆλον ὅτι ἐκτὸς τοῦ ὑποτάξαντος αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα.

Ὅταν δὲ ὑποταγῇ αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα, τότε καὶ αὐτὸς ὁ υἱὸς ὑποταγήσεται τῷ ὑποτά ξαντι αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα, ἵνα ᾗ ὁ Θεὸς τὰ πάντα ἐν πᾶσιν.

Ἐπεὶ, τί ποιήσουσιν οἱ βαπτιζόμενοι ὑπὲρ τῶν νεκρῶν, εἰ ὅλως νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται; τί καὶ βαπτίζονται ὑπὲρ τῶν νεκρῶν; Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?

VER. 30.

Τί καὶ ἡμεῖς κινδυνεύομεν πᾶσαν ὥραν ; And why stand we in jeopardy every hour?

VER. 31.

Καθ ̓ ἡμέραν ἀποθνήσκω, νὴ τὴν ἡμετέ σαν καύχησιν, ἣν ἔχω ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ τῷ Κυρίῳ ἡμῶν.

We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed, Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment, Eccl. xi. 9. And in that day did the Lord Gop of hosts call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth: And, behold, joy and gladness, slaying oxen and killing sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine : let us eat and drink, for to-morrow we shall die, Isa. xxii. 12, 13.

VER. 33.

Μὴ πλανᾶσθε· φθείρουσιν ἤθη χρῆσθ' ὁμιλίαι κακαί.

Be not deceived: a evil communications corrupt good manners.

a Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding, Prov. ix. 6. He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed, xiii. 20. Εκνήψατε δικαίως, καὶ μὴ ἁμαρτάνετε· ἀγνωσίαν γὰρ Θεοῦ τινες ἔχουσι. Πρὸς ἐνTgory iμïv Kéyw.

̓Αλλ ̓ ἐρεῖ τίς· Πῶς ἐγείρονται οἱ νεκροί ; ποίῳ δὲ σώματι ἔρχονται ;

But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?

Αφρον, σὺ ὃ σπείρεις, οὐ ζωοποιεῖται, ἐὰν μὴ ἀποθάνῃ·

Thou fool, a that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:

VER. 37.

Καὶ ὃ σπείρεις, οὐ τὸ σῶμα τὸ γενησόμενον σπείρεις, ἀλλὰ γυμνὸν κόκκον, εἰ τύχοι, σίτου, ἤ τινος τῶν λοιπῶν·

And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain :

Ὁ δὲ Θεὸς αὐτῷ δίδωσι σῶμα καθὼς ἠθέλησε, καὶ ἑκάστῳ τῶν σπερμάτων τὸ ἴδιον σῶμα.

But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.

VER. 39.

Οὐ πᾶσα σὰρξ, ἡ αὐτὴ σάρξ· ἀλλὰ ἄλλη μὲν σὰρξ ἀνθρώπων, ἄλλῃ δὲ σὰρξ κτηνῶν, ἄλλη δὲ ἰχθύων, ἄλλη δὲ πτηνῶν.

All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.

VER. 40.

καὶ σώματα ἐπουράνια, καὶ σώματα ἐπίγεια· ἀλλ ̓ ἑτέρα μὲν ἡ τῶν ἐπουρανίων δόξα, ἑτέρα δὲ ἡ τῶν ἐπιγείων.

There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

VER. 41.

*Αλλη δόξα ἡλίου, καὶ ἄλλη δόξα σελή. της, καὶ ἄλλη δόξα ἀστέρων· ἀστὴρ γὰρ ἀστέρος διαφέξει ἐν δόξῃ.

There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.

VER. 42.

Οὕτω καὶ ἡ ἀνάστασις τῶν νεκρῶν. Σπείρεται ἐν φθορᾷ, ἐγείρεται ἐν ἀφθαρσία.

ground: for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou urt, and unto dust shalt thou return, Gen. iii. 19. I have said to corruption, Thou art my father : to the worm, Thou art my mother and my sister, Job xvii. 14. Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them ; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling, Psal. xlix. 14. And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, Rom. i. 23.

Σπείρεται ἐν ἀτιμία, ἐγείρεται ἐν δόξῃ· σπείρεται ἐν ἀσθενείᾳ, ἐγείρεται ἐν δυ να μει

a It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:

a For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ : Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself, Phil. iii. 20, 21.

VER. 44.

Σπείρεται σῶμα ψυχικὸν, ἐγείρεται σῶ μα πνευματικόν. "Εστι σῶμα ψυχικόν, ἔστι σῶμα πνευματικόν·

It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

VER. 45.

Οὕτω καὶ γέγραπται· Εγένετο ὁ πρῶ τος ἄνθρωπος ̓Αδάμ εἰς ψυχὴν ζῶσαν· ὁ ἔσχατος ̓Αδὰμ εἰς πνεῦμα ζωοποιοῦν.

And so it is written, a The first man Adam was made a living soul; b the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.

VER. 53.

Δεῖ γὰρ τὸ φθαρτὸν τοῦτο ἐνδύσασθαι ἀφθαρσίαν, καὶ τὸ θνητὸν τοῦτο ἐνδύσασθαι

ἀθανασίαν.

For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

VER. 54.

Ὅταν δὲ τὸ φθαρτὸν τοῦτο ἐνδύσηται ἀφθαρσίαν, καὶ τὸ θνητὸν τοῦτο ἐνδύσηται ἀθανασίαν, τότε γενήσεται ὁ λόγος ὁ γεγραμμένος· Κατεπόθη ὁ θάνατος εἰς νίκος.

So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, a then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

a He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it, Isa. xxv. 8.

VER. 58.

Ωστε, ἀδελφοί μου ἀγαπητοί, ἕδραῖοι γίνεσθε, ἀμετακίνητοι, περισσεύοντες ἐν τῷ ἔργῳ τοῦ Κυρίου πάντοτε, εἰδότες ὅτι ὁ κόπος ὑμῶν οὐκ ἔστι κενὸς ἐν Κυρίῳ.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, a be ye stedfast, unmoveable, balways abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain d in the Lord.
