And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.

VER. 4.

Καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἄλλος ἵππος πυῤῥός· καὶ τῷ καθημένω ἐπ ̓ αὐτῷ ἐδόθη αὐτῷ λαβεῖν τὴν εἰρήνην ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς, καὶ ἵνα ἀλλήλους σφά ξωσι· καὶ ἐδόθη αὐτῷ μάχαιρα μεγάλη.

a And there went out another horse that was red: b and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

I saw by night, and, behold, a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle-trees that were in the bottom; and behind him | were there red horses, speckled, and | white, Zech. i. 8.

b Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword, Psal. xvii. 13. O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation. I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets. Isa. x. 5, 6. And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and | put my sword in his hand: but I will break Pharaoh's arms, and he shall groan before him with the groanings of a deadly-wounded man. But I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and the arms of Pharaoh shall fall down; and they shall know that I am the LoRD, when I shall put my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall stretch it out upon the land of Egypt, Ezek. xΧΧ. 24, 25.

And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a a pair of balances in his hand.

a And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied, Lev. xxvi. 26. And thy meat which thou shalt eat shall be by weight, twenty shekels a-day: from time to time shalt thou eat it, Ezek. iv. 10. Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, behold, I will break the staff of bread in Jerusalem; and they shall eat bread by weight, and with care; and they shall drink water by measure, and with astonishment,

Καὶ ἤκουσα φωνὴν ἐν μέσῳ τῶν τεσσάρων ζώων λέγουσαν· Χοῖνιξ σίτου δηναρίου, καὶ τρεῖς χοίνικες κριθῆς δηναρίου· καὶ τὸ ἔλαιον καὶ τὸν οἶνον μὴ ἀδικήσῃς.

And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say,* A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

The word chanix, signifieth a measure containing one wine quart, and the twelfth part of a quart.

VER. 7.

Καὶ ὅτε ἄνοιξε τὴν σφραγῖδα τὴν τετάρ την, ἤκουσα φωνὴν τοῦ τετάρτου ζώου λέyourav "Epxov xai Bréwe.

Καὶ εἶδον, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἵππος χλωρὸς, καὶ ὁ καθήμενος ἐπάνω αὐτοῦ, ὄνομα αὐτῷ ὁ Θάνατος· καὶ ὁ ᾅδης ἀκολουθεῖ μετ ̓ αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἐδόθη αὐτοῖς ἐξουσία ἀποκτεῖναι ἐπὶ τὸ τέταρτον τῆς γῆς, ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ καὶ ἐν λιμῷ καὶ ἐν θανάτω, καὶ ὑπὸ τῶν θηρίων τῆς γῆς.

And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years, chap. xx. 4.

VER. 10.

Καὶ ἔκραζον φωνῇ μεγάλη, λέγοντες" Εως πότε, ὁ δεσπότης ὁ ἅγιος καὶ ὁ ἀληθι· νὸς, οὐ κρίνεις καὶ ἐκδικεῖς τὸ αἷμα ἡμῶν ἀπὸ τῶν κατοικούντων ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ;

And they cried with a loud voice, say ing, How long, O Lord, a holy and true, cdost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth.

VER. 11.

Καὶ ἐδόθησαν ἑκάστοις στολαὶ λευκαί, καὶ ἐῤῥέθη αὐτοῖς ἵνα ἀναπαύσωνται ἔτι χρόνον μικρὸν, ἕως οὗ πληρώσονται καὶ οἱ σύνδουλοι αὐτῶν καὶ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτῶν, οἱ μέλλοντες ἀποκτείνεσθαι ὡς καὶ αὐτοί.

VER. 12.

Καὶ εἶδον ὅτε ἤνοιξε τὴν σφραγῖδα τὴν ἕκτην, καὶ ἰδοὺ, σεισμὸς μέγας ἐγένετο, καὶ ὁ ἥλιος ἐγένετο μέλας ὡς σάκκος τρίχινος, καὶ ἡ σελήνη ἐγένετο ὡς αἷμα·

And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; b and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

VER. 13.

Καὶ οἱ ἀστέρες τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἔπεσαν εἰς τὴν γῆν, ὡς συκῆ βάλλει τοὺς ὀλύνθους αυτ τῆς, ὑπὸ μεγάλου ἀνέμου σειομένη.

And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig-tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

VER. 14.

Καὶ οὐρανὸς ἀπεχωρίσθη ὡς βιβλίον εἱλισσόμενον, καὶ πᾶν ὄρος καὶ νῆσος ἐπ τῶν τόπων αὑτῶν ἐκινήθησαν·

a And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together ; band every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

VER. 15.

καὶ οἱ δυνατοὶ, καὶ πᾶς δοῦλος καὶ πᾶς ἐλεύ θερος ἔκρυψαν ἑαυτοὺς εἰς τὰ σπήλαια καὶ εἰς τὰς πέτρας τῶν ὀρέων·

a And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, bhid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains ;

And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning, Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come. And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more, chap. xviii. 9-11. That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. VER. 8.

Μετὰ ταῦτα εἶδον, καὶ ἰδοῦ ὄχλος που λὺς, ὃν ἀριθμῆσαι αὐτὸν οὐδεὶς ἐδύνατο, ἐκ παντὸς ἔθνους καὶ φυλῶν καὶ λαῶν καὶ γλωσσῶν, ἑστῶτες ἐνῶπιον τοῦ θρόνου καὶ ἐνώπιον τοῦ ἀρνίου, περιβεβλημένοι στο λὰς λευκὰς καὶ φοίνικες ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτῶν·
