VER. 13.

Καὶ τίς ὁ κακώσων ὑμᾶς, ἐὰν τοῦ ἀγαθοῦ μιμηταὶ γένησθε ;

a And who is he that will harm you, b if ye be followers of that which is good?

Κύριον δὲ τὸν Θεὸν ἁγιάσατε ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ὑμῶν· ἕτοιμοι δὲ ἀεὶ πρὸς ἀπολογίαν παντὶ τῷ αἰτοῦντι ὑμᾶς λόγον περὶ τῆς ἐν ὑμῖν ἐλπίδος μετὰ πραύτητος καὶ pícov

a But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: band be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you d with meekness and *fear:

But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God, that is holy, shall be sanctified in righteousness, Isa. v. 16. Sanctify the LoRD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread, viii. 13. But when he seeth his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name, and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel, καίκ. 23.

For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, ebut quickened by the Spirit:

VER. 19.

And the LORD said, My Spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh, Gen. vi. 3. And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the Lonp said, I will destroy man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth; both man and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air: for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD, 5. -8. The earth also was corrupt before God; and the earth was filled with violence. And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corway upon the earth. And God said rupt: for all flesh had corrupted his unto Noah, The end of all flesh is with violence through them: and, become before me; for the earth is filled hold, I will destroy them with the

Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us bin the flesh, arm your selves likewise with the same mind; for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the Spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

VER. 15.

Μὴ γάρ τις ὑμῶν πασχέτω ὡς φονεὺς, ἢ κλέπτης, ἡ κακοποιός, ἢ ὡς ἀλλοτριοςπίσκοπος.

But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.

VER. 16.

Εἰ δὲ ὡς Χριστιανὸς, μὴ αἰσχυνέσθω, δοξαζέτω δὲ τὸν Θεὸν ἐν τῷ μέρει τούτῳ,

a Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

VER. 17.

a For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the Gospel of God?

the LORD of hosts, Jer. xxv. 29. Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women; but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house, Ezek. ix. 6. And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees; therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire, Matt. iii. 9, 10. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required; and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more, Luke xii. 48.

VER. 18.

Καὶ εἰ ὁ δίκαιος μόλις σώζεται, ὁ ἀσεβὲς καὶ ἁμαρτωλὸς ποῦ φανεῖται ;
