Let those refuse to sing,
That never knew our God;
But fav'rites of the heav'nly King,
May speak their joys abroad.

The God that rules on high,
And thunders when he please,
That rides upon the stormy sky,
And manages the seas;

5

This awful God is ours,

Our Father and our love,

He shall send down his heav'nly powers,
Το carry us above.

5 There we shall see his face,

And never, never sin ;

There, from the rivers of his grace,
Drink endless pleasures in.

Yes, and before we rise

To that immortal state,

The thoughts of such amazing bliss,
Should constant joys create.

The men of grace have found,
Glory begun below;

Celestial fruits on earthly ground,
From faith and hope may grow.
The hill of Sion yields

A thousand sacred sweets,
Before we reach the heav'nly fields,

Or walk the golden streets.

Then let our songs abound,

And every tear be dry;

We're marching through Immanuel's ground

To fairer worlds on high.

579. Spiritual and Eternal Joys. (C. M.)

FROM

ROM thee, my God, my joys shall rise,
And run eternal rounds;

Beyond the limits of the skies,
And all created bounds.

2 The holy triumphs of my soul
Shall death itself outbrave;
Leave dull mortality behind,
And fly beyond the grave.

3 There, where my blessed Jesus reigns,
In heaven's unmeasur'd space;
I'll spend a long eternity,

In pleasure and in praise.

4 Millions of years my wond'ring eyes,
Shall o'er thy beauties rove;
And endless ages I'll adore,
The glories of thy love.

5 Sweet Jesus, every smile of thine,
Shall fresh endearments bring;
And thousand tastes of new delight,
From all thy graces spring.

6 Haste, my beloved, fetch my soul,
Up to thy blest abode;

Fly, for my spirit longs to see
My Saviour and my God.

580.

Christ's Commission. (S. M.)

1 RAISE

AISE your triumphant songs,
To an immortal tune,

Let the wide earth resound the deeds

Celestial grace has done.

Sing how eternal Love,
Its chief Beloved chose,
And bid him raise our wretched race,

From their abyss of woes.

His hand no thunder bears,
Nor terror clothes his brow;
No bolts to drive our guilty souls,
To fiercer flames below.

"Twas mercy fill'd the throne,
And wrath stood silent by,

When Christ was sent with pardons down,

To rebels doom'd to die.

5 Now, sinners, dry your tears,
Let hopeless sorrows cease;
Bow to the sceptre of his love,
And take the offer'd peace.

6 Lord, we obey thy call;
We lay an humble claim
To the salvation thou hast brought,
And love and praise thy name.

81. Joyful Expectation. John xiv. 7. (P. M.)

1

CHILDREN of the heavenly King,
As ye journey, sweetly sing;

Sing your Saviour's worthy praise,
Glorious in his works and ways.
2 Ye are travelling home to God,
In the way the fathers trod;
They are happy now, and ye,
Soon their happiness shall see.
30 ye banish'd seed, be glad;
Christ our advocate is made;
Us to save, our flesh assumes,
Brother to our souls becomes.

4 Shout, ye little flock, and blest,
You on Jesu's throne shall rest;
There your seat is now prepar'd,
There your kingdom and reward.
5 Fear not, brethren, joyful stand
On the borders of your land;
Jesus Christ, your Father's Son,
Bids you undismay'd go on.

6 Lord! submissive make us go,
Gladly leaving all below;
Only thou our leader be,

And we still will follow thee.

582. The Triumph of Faith. Isaiah xlix. 16.

1 A

(P. M.)

DEBTOR to mercy alone,
Of covenant mercy I sing;
Nor fear, with thy righteousness on,
My person and offerings to bring:
The terrors of law, and of God,
With me can have nothing to do;
My Saviour's obedience and blood,
Hide all my transgressions from view.

2 The work, which his goodness began,
The arm of his strength will complete;
His promise is Yea and Amen,
And never was forfeited yet:
Things future, nor things that are now,
Not all things below, nor above,
Can make him his purpose forego,
Or sever my soul from his love.

3 My name from the palms of his hands
Eternity will not erase;
Impress'd on his heart it remains,
In marks of indelible

grace:
Yes, I to the end shall endure,
As sure as the earnest is given ;
More happy, but not more secure,
The glorified spirits in heaven.

83. Hope in the Covenant; or, God's Promise

and Truth unchangeable. Heb. vi. 17-19. (L. M.) 1 OW oft have sin and Satan strove,

How
To rend my soul from thee,
But everlasting is thy love,

my God!

And Jesus seals it with his blood. 2 The oath and promise of the Lord, Join to confirm the wond'rous grace Eternal power performs the word, And fills all heav'n with endless praise. 3 Amidst temptations sharp and long, My soul to this dear refuge flies; Hope is my anchor firm and strong, While tempests blow and billows rise. 4 The gospel bears my spirits up; A faithful and unchanging God Lays the foundation for my hope, In oaths, and promises, and blood. 84. Rejoicing in the Name of Jesus. (C. M.)

FOR a thousand tongues, to sing
My dear Redeemer's praise!

The glories of my God and King,
The triumphs of his grace.
