3 'Tis he, my soul, that sent his Son,
To die for crimes which thou hast done;
The hourly follies of our lives.
And cures the pains that nature feels;
Our wasting life from threatning graves ! -5 Our youth decay'd, his pow'r repairs ;
His mercy crowns our growing years ;
And fills our hopes with heav'nly food. 6 He sees th’ oppressor and th' opprest,
And often gives the suff'rers rest;
In the last great rewarding day.
And gave to Israel his commands;
To all the nations by his Son.
Let the whole earth adore his grace;
142. Praise for Temporal and Spiritual Mercies.
Let all within me join,
Whose favours are divine.
2 O bless the Lord, my soul;
Nor let his mercies lie
And without praises die.
3 'Tis he forgives thy sins,
'Tis be relieves thy pain;
And makes thee young again.
4 He crowns thy life with love,
When ransom'd from the grave;
Hath sov'reign pow'r to save.
He fills the poor with good ;
8 His wondrous works and ways,
He made by Moses known;
By his beloved Son.
143. Abounding Compassion of God. (S. M. I M Y soul, repeat his praise,
1 Whose mercies are so great,
So ready to abate. -
And when his strokes are felt,
And lighter than our guilt.
Above the ground we tread,
Our highest thoughts exceed.
And his forgiving love,
Doth all our guilt remove.
To those that fear his name,
He knows our feeble frame.
Scatter'd with ev'ry breath ;
Can send us swift to death.
Or like the morning flow'r; · If one sharp blast sweep o'er the field,
It withers in an hour,
But thy compassions, Lord,
To endless years endure ;
Thy words of promise sure.
Israel led to Canaan, and Christians to
Heaven. (L. M.)
1 MIVE thanks to God; he reigns above:
U Kind are his thoughts ; his name is love ;
- 2 Let the redeemed of the Lord,
The wonders of his grace record;
3 When God's almighty arm had broke
Their fetters, and th’ Egyptian yoke,
4 There they could find no leading road,
Nor city for a fix'd abode;
5 In their distress, to God they cry’d;
God was their Saviour and their guide;
6 Thus when our first release we gain,
From sin's old yoke, and Satan's chain,
A dang’rous and a tiresome place.
He guides our footsteps lest we stray;
And brings us to the heav'nly land. 8 O let the saints with joy record
The truth and goodness of the Lord !
1 MIVE thanks to God most high,
V The universal Lord;
His pow'r and grace
Have endless praise.
Thy mercy, Lord,
