With respect to the boundary of the district, and the number of houses contained therein, I have not the means whereby I can with accuracy define the same, or state the number of houses. Mercer's Hall, June 1843.
West DistrICT, CITY OF London.
The number of houses, and other buildings, in my district, is 4,316; and the district extends in and throughout Aldersgate Ward Within, Aldersgate Ward Without, Farringdon Ward Without, Cheap Ward, St. Bartholomew-the Great, St. Bartholomew-the-Less, The Inner Temple, that part of the Middle Temple situate within the City, Serjeants' Inn Fleet-street, Serjeants' Inn Chancery-lane, Clifford's Inn, Barnard's Inn, Thavies' Inn, and the several parts of Staple's Inn and Furnival's Inn which are respectively situate within the limits of the City.
With respect to the Returns required of “ The Number of New Houses, and of what Class Built, under the Act, and the Number of Alterations made in each Year since 1831 to 1842;” and also, “ The Aggregate Number of Each in that time;" and also, “ An Account of the Amount of Fees received by the Surveyor in each of these Twelve Years; distinguishing the Amount Received for New Buildings, and the Amount Received for Alterations,”—I am unable to make the required statements, not having been elected to the office of Surveyor to the district until the ad of May 1843, and having no means of obtaining such information from other persons. 6, Clement's Inn, Strand, 7
