Articles of association of the Attica, Lockport and Lake Ontario Railroad Company, dated September 12, 1883, and filed in the office of the Secretary of State of the State of New York November 24, 1883, made in pursuance of the provisions of an act of the Legislature, entitled "An act to authorize the formation of railroad corporations and to regulate the same," passed April 2, 1850, and of the acts amendatory thereof and supplementary thereto, signed by one hundred and sixtyseven incorporators, sworn to by three directors named therein; that $1,000 per mile of the proposed railroad had been in good faith subscribed, and ten (10) per cent thereon had been in good faith paid in cash.

This road was originally commenced to go from Rochester to Pittsburgh, in 1852, and in 1856 that company deeded to the Genesee Valley Railroad Company the right of way from Avon to Mount Morris, and the Genesee Valley Railroad Company constructed the road, and on the 18th day of January, 1859, the first passenger car went over the road.

The road was sold on the bonds, and the present company organized and operated the road until January 1, 1872, when it was leased to the Erie Railroad Company, which they continued to operate until their road was sold, and the New York, Lake Erie and Western Railroad Company was formed, and they have continued to operate it since.

The road was built under the general railroad law of 1850.
