In October, 1881, this road was leased to the Utica, Ithaca and Elmira Railway Company. Leasehold interest sold under decree of foreclosure and purchased by Austin Corbin and J. Rogers Maxwell, February 23, 1884, and afterward, on March 8, 1884, conveyed by Corbin and Maxwell to the Elmira, Cortland and Northern Railroad Company.

Road constructed from Carthage to Watertown in 1872; completed to Sacketts Harbor in 1873, and is leased to the Utica and Black River Railroad Company, during the full term of the corporate existence of this company, for 37 per cent of the gross earnings of the road.
