rising from the Canal side. The Cup Course is nearly a mile and a half, starting opposite the stables. From the Canal point in is nearly six furlongs. There is a straight run in of about 1000 yards. The Queen's Plate Course is two miles.

LUDLOW-Is nearly circular, with very little rise or fall, except at the Butt turn, and not quite a mile and a half round.

MANCHESTER.-The Race-course is formed on 100 statute acres of the New Barns Estate, in the borough of Salford, and is situate within two miles and a quarter of the Manchester Exchange, with excellent roads and approaches in every direction. The course is nearly one mile and a half in circumference, and perfectly flat. The T.Y.C., which is fifty yards wide at the starting point, and perfectly straight, is about five furlongs, and joins the round Course at the top, as at Ascot. For the Cup (Whitsuntide and November) the horses start at the old half-mile post and go once round, about one mile ard three quarters.

MAZE COURSE (Down Royal Corporation Meeting)-Is a circular Course of one mile, 7 furlongs, and 20 yards, and for more than a mile quite level, there being a slight rise from T.Y.C. to the top of the "Gravel Hill" when the ground falls for a short distance, the run in being nearly straight for about three furlongs and a half. The T.Y.C. is six furlongs. The soil is very sandy.

MORPETH.-The Course is situate about three-quarters of a mile from the town, on the "Common," being a plot of fine old grass land. The T.Y.C. is as nearly as possible five furlongs straight, being slightly on the ascent. The New Course is oval, and one mile less 90 yards in circumference, running easily into the T.Y.C. two furlongs from home.

NEWTON-Is a triangular Course of about a mile and a quarter, with a slight rise from the distance, and a straight flat run in of nearly half a mile. The Golborne Park Stakes Course is five furlongs. "Red house in" is about 5 furlongs. The Course is fine elastic turf, and never hard at any season of the year. In wet weather it is always good going.

NORTHALLERTON-Is a triangular-shaped Course of one mile round, having easy turns, with a straight run in, which is slightly on the rise. The T.Y.C. is three-quarters of a mile. The Course is situate close to the town, and there is a substantial Stand, from which all the running may be seen.

NORTHAMPTON-The old oval Course is one mile and a half and 180 yards round, with a hill half way, and a straight run in of half a mile, which is part of the Two yrs old and Althorp Park Stakes Courses. The New Spencer Plate Course is perfectly straight, and enters the old Course at the Two-mile starting-post, and is about five furlongs in length. The Queen's Plate Course is two miles. The Course is close to the town.

NOTTINGHAM-Is a long oval Course of one mile, one furlong, and 207 yards, with two straight sides of half a mile each. The turns at each end of the oval are easy. The T.Y.C. is 6 furlongs. The Queen's Plate Course is two miles. The Course is situate at the foot of a hilly ridge of land, which commands a good view of the races from the start to the finish.

OXFORD.-The Course is on Port Meadow, which is an area of 500 acres, half a mile from the city, and is a perfect level. The Two-mile Course is in the form of the figure of nine reversed, three-quarters of a mile being quite straight. There is a Mile Course and a Three-quarters of a mile Course (the T.Y.C.) perfectly straight, and of great width.

PAISLEY-IS flat and nearly square, with a little rising ground, and is scarcely a mile round. The T.Y.C. is 5 furlongs.

PERTH-IS over the North Inch. It is a right-handed Course, and almost entirely a dead flat, nearly oval, and as nearly as possible one mile and a third round.

PLYMOUTH-Is nearly an oval, about one mile and a half, with a straight run of about half a mile.

PONTEFRACT.-The Course is in Pontefract Park, a magnificent piece of ground, containing upwards of 300 acres, and in close proximity to the town. The Course is an oval one, free from objectionable turns, of excellent turf, of great width in every part, and two miles, 156 yards round. The last half-mile is slightly on the ascent. The New Two yrs old Course is five furlongs. There is a handsome and commodious Grand Stand, to which the Telegraph wires extend.

REDCAR-Is an oval Course (perfectly flat), of fine_old grass land, situate on the estate of A. H. T. Newcomen, Esq. The Round Course is about two miles in circumference, with a straight run in of five furlongs. The Mile Course is perfectly straight from start to finish, and runs into the Round Course at the five furlongs starting post; the first three furlongs of the New straight mile Course are situate on the Earl of Zetland's estate. The Two years old Course is five

furlongs, straight from start to finish, and of great width in every part. The Course is within ten minutes' walk of either the Town or Railway Station.

RICHMOND Is an oval Course, measuring one mile and a half and 164 yards; there is a straight run in of about five furlongs. From the Grey stone it measures half a mile and 200 yards of straight running, rather against the hill, and finishing on the decline; from the lime-kiln gate, three-quarters of a mile and 100 yards. There is a substantial stone-built Stand, from which the whole Course is visible except about 100 yards. The Queen's Plate Course is two miles.

RIPON. The Course is situate close to the City, on the Harrogate road. It is upwards of a mile round, and the run in, which is straight, is very slightly on the ascent. The T.Y.C. is five furlongs. There is a commodious Stand, from which the whole of the running can be seen, and the Course, which is of good width in every part, is railed all round.

SALISBURY.-The Mile Course is straight and flat, with the exception of a rise for the first 50 yards. The T.Y.C. is the last three-quarters of this straight Course. For the twomile Course the horses start beyond the Winning-chair, run past the chair and the Stand, and diverge to the left from the straight Course, which they re-enter at the T.Y.C. starting-post. The Queen's Plate Course is three miles.

SANDOWN PARK-The Course is situate at Esher, is oval, and rather over one mile and a half in circumference. T.Y.C. is five furlongs, and is perfectly straight.

SCARBOROUGH-Is a round Course, about one mile and a quarter in extent, the last three furlongs being quite straight; from the T.Y.C. five furlongs post, there is a gradual rise, until within two furlongs of the winning post, which is then almost flat to the finish. The Half-mile Course is straight, and runs into the other portion of the Course, about three furlongs below the winning post.

SHREWSBURY.-The Old Course is an oval of about one mile and a furlong, with a slight ascent from the last turn. The New Course joins the Round Course at the top turn as at Ascot; it is a straight Course of one mile, less about 100 yards, and is called the New Mile; the first 300 yards is an ascent, then level for 300 yards, afterwards a very slight descent till the Old Course is reached, when the ground slightly rises to the winning post.

STOCKBRIDGE—Is nearly a round Course, somewhat hilly, the last three-quarters of a mile straight for the run in; and there is also a straight mile. The T.Y.C. is threequarters of a mile; the Bush in, about five furlongs.

STOCKTON.-The Course is about three-quarters of a mile from the town, on Mandale Bottoms; it is perfectly level, oblong in shape, the turf peaty and excellent, and one mile, 6 furlongs, and 110 yards in length. The T.Y.C. is 6 furlongs, and nearly straight.

THIRSK-The main body of the Old Course is oval and flat, being about one mile, one furlong, and 40 yards in length. The turns are easy and the ground well levelled all round. The New Straight Six-furlongs Course joins the round, or oval Old Course at the last turn, and has the excellent width of 60 yards at the starting line. The New Five furlong Course is a portion of the New Straight Six furlong Course, and being formed over fine old grass land, the going is good in all weather.

WARWICK-Is nearly circular, and the distance once round is one mile, six furlongs, and 60 yards. There is a strong hill about half a mile from the Starting-post. The Leamington Stakes Course is one mile and 44 yards. The T.Y.C. is five furlongs. The Queen's Plate Course is two miles. The "straight run in" is about three furlongs and a half.

WEYMOUTH-Is a round Course of one mile, quite flat, and excellent running ground, with a straight run in of nearly half a mile. It is situate on Lodmoor, half a mile from the town. The Queen's Plate Course is two miles. The T.Y.C. is five furlongs.

WINCHESTER-The Course is two miles round, starting at the Winning chair. There is a straight run in of about five furlongs, the first furlong of which is flat and then a strong hill. The Queen's Plate Course is two miles.

WINDSOR-Is a flat Course of about 160 acres, one mile from Windsor Castle. For the Two-mile Course the horses start opposite the Stand and run a figure of 6, as at Worcester, the last three-quarters of a mile being quite straight.

WORCESTER-Is a dead flat, and of irregular shape. The Five furlongs Course is straight. The Mile-and-quarter Course is a figure of 6, the first and last half-mile being straight. The Two-mile Course is a figure of 8, the last half-mile straight.

WYE-Is in shape like a battledore, one mile and threequarters, with six furlongs quite straight, the first two furlongs of which are down hill, the third furlong up hill, the fourth down, and the last two up hill to the finish-all excellent Down land, and a mile from the town.

YARMOUTH.-The Course, once round, is one mile, two furlongs, and 200 yards, perfectly level, and on a sandy soil. The T.Y.C. is 5 furlongs, 80 yards, straight. The other Courses are portions of the whole round.

YORK.-The Race Course is about a mile from the city, on a plain called Knavesmire; it is quite flat, rather oval in shape, and about two miles in length. The T.Y.C. is 5 furlongs and 44 yards. The Great Yorkshire Stakes Course is one mile and three-quarters, and is run over the New Course. The Old and New Two-mile Courses are exactly two miles. The Queen's Plate and Ebor Handicap are each two miles, and are run over the Old Course.
