My beloved children, I earnestly ask you to attend to these words: they were spoken to you by the Lord of Life himself; and with them he begins that discourse which is well known to many of you by the name of the Sermon on the Mount. Some of you have probably learned the whole Sermon by heart, or at least the twelve first verses, containing what are called the Beatitudes.
