THE NATIONAL GUARD OF CALIFORNIA.

The National Guard of California, as at present constituted, consists of sixty-seven companies of infantry, two light batteries^ one troop cavalry, one cadet company, and four signal corps—organized into nine regiments, one battalion, and three unattached companies, six brigades, and one division, with a total strength of 450 officers and 4,700 enlisted men.

In addition to the above mentioned force, there is a battalion of four companies of naval militia, with headquarters at San Francisco. It has a total strength of 23 officers and 280 seamen. Enrolled militia, 154,589. Total expenditures by the State for the two years ending June 30, 1893, $313,147.
