A MEMORIAL to Congress and Resolutions to our Senators and Representative requesting the Establishment of certain Mail Lines in West Florida.

STATE CAPITOL, TALLAHASSEE, Fla., July 20th, 1868. To the Congress of the United States:

Your Memorialists would most respectfully represent unto your honorable body that they are the duly elected Senators and Representatives of the people of West Florida, and feel a deep interest in their constituency, and desiring that they should have all the rights and benefits conferred upon other sections of the Mail line re- United States, would further respectfully show unto your honorable body, that the one-horse mail line now established from Marianna to Pensacola via Vernon, Washington county, Knox Hill, Eucheeanna, Walton county, and Milton, Santa Rosa county, is inadequate to the wants and necessities of the people of West Florida, and that there are eight or ten hundred citizens living along the shores of Choctawhatchie Bay without any mail facilities whatever, and that the citizens of Pensacola could, if the line hereinafter described is established, receive their mails from Tallahassee, the Capital of the State, two or three days sooner than they now do, and that the establishment of said line will not only be

beneficial to the citizens of the section through which it passes as a mail facility, but also in many other respects.

Your Memorialists would further show that [there] are five or six hundred citizens living in the vicinity of St. Andrews Bay, about fifty miles from any post-office, who are very desirous of having the line hereinafter described established; therefore your Memorialists would most respectfully ask that your honorable body enact a law requiring the establishment at the earliest period practicable of the following described lines:

A two-horse hack line from Marianna, Jackson county, to Vernon, Washington county, thence to Knox Hill, Euchecanna, and Freeport, in Walton county, thence by steamer to Alaqua Bayou, thence to Boggy Bayou, thence to Rogerville, thence to Live Oak, thence to Town Point, thence to Pensacola, the terminus, the total distance being about one hundred and eighty miles.

Also a one-horse line from Vernon, Washington county, to Econfina, thence to St. Andrews Bay, in the last named county. All of which your Memorialists most respectfully submit for the earnest consideration of your honorable body. Hoping you will give it early attention, your Memorialists will ever pray.

Dan'l L. McKinnon, Rep. Walton Co., Dallas Wood, Sen. 4th Dist., A. L. McCaskill, Sen. 2d Dist., Joseph A. Atkins, Sen. 5th Dist., J. E. A. Davidson, Sen. 6th Dist., John Varnum, Rep. Escambia Co., John W. Butler, Rep. Santa Rosa Co., W. J. Purman, Sen. 3rd Dist., E. Fortune, Rep. Jackson Co., J. Robinson, Rep. Jackson Co., Geo. P. Raney, Rep. Franklin Co.

Resolved, By the people of Florida, represented in Senate and Assembly, That our Senators and Representative in Congress of the United States be, and they are hereby, requested to procure the enactment of a law establishing the following mail lines, to wit:

A two-horse hack mail line from Marianna, Jackson county, thence to Vernon, Washington county, thence to Knox Hill and Eucheeanna and Freeport in Walton county, thence by steamer to Alaqua, Boggy Bayou, and Rogerville in Walton county, thence to Live Oak and Town Point in Santa Rosa county, thence to Pensacola, Escambia county, the terminus.

Also a one-horse mail line from Vernon, Washington county, thence to Econfina and St. Andrews Bay, the terminus, all of which points are in Washington county.

Resolved further, That His Excellency Harrison Reed, Governor of Florida, be, and he is hereby, requested to transmit a copy of these resolutions, together with the accompanying Memorial, to our Senators and Representative in Congress immediately.

Adopted July 21st, 1868.
