COLONEL HALL continued.

I now beg to offer my account of advances only, against the Poyais Government to the amount of 586 dollars, 95 cents, not at all including my pay, &c. &c. I also offer another account, shewing the settlement of the monies coming into my hands from the sales; and if I had not paid any thing to the respectable settlers, and the advances, and supposing I had received the whole £943 18s. 9d., Jamaica currency, the amount of sales of stores, &c., the Poyais Government would still owe me £279 1s. 11d.: as it at present stands, they are indebted to me £477 8s. 2d. as per account now handed in.

Had the proceeds of stores sold at Belize been appropriated to reimburse my advances, pay, &c. a balance would still remain due to me of £279 1s. 11d. as per the above statement.

The stores and provisions were much deteriorated, from the want of store-room or shelter, the people having refused to work at the huts ordered to be erected, unless their stipulated wages were paid up. With this I could not comply, no specie being in the accountant's possession, and Poyaisian bank notes, of which we had plenty, not being current in the country.

Of the cargo of the Honduras packet, I do not imagine that one-fourth was received, Captain Hedgcock having detained the greater part of the stores and provisions, to satisfy claims alleged against Sir Gregor M'Gregor, as head of the government, and of that of the Kinnersley Castle, I think not more than one-half.

I here produce two papers to shew the irregularity in the landing the same. I was absent when
