House Concurrent Resolution No. 18, Pretaining to settlers in Allen county.

Laid over under the rules.

Mr. O'Neil offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Chairman of each Standing Committee be and is hereby requested to give notice to the Senate by its Secretary of the time and place of meeting of their respective Committees.

Which was adopted.

Mr. J. C. Wilson, Chairman of the Committee on Apportionment, asked, and by unanimous consent obtained, leave to make the following report:

Mr. President: Your Committee on Apportionment, to whom was referred

Senate Bill No. 10, An act to add Elm Grove township, of Labette county, to the forty-fourth representative district,

Have had the same under consideration, and I am directed to report the said bill to the Senate with the recommendation that it be referred to the Committee on Judiciary. J. C. WILSON,

Which motion prevailed, and

Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 27, Relating to appointment of a shorthand reporter for the Committee on Investigation,

Was taken up for consideration.

The question being: Shall the resolution be adopted?
A vote was had, and

The resolution was adopted.

Ordered that the Secretary inform the House thereof.

Mr. Martin, by unanimous consent, offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the pay of J. W. Edwards, as postmaster of the Senate, shall commence on the 14th day of January, 1873.

Mr. Edwards moved that when the Senate adjourn it be until 2 P. M.

Which motion prevailed.

Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 24, Appointing a Committee to visit the Penitentiary,

Was taken up for consideration.

Mr. Crichton moved to amend by inserting the words "three on the part of the Senate and five on the part of the House."

Upon which a vote was had, and

The amendment prevailed.

The question being: Shall the resolution be adopted?

A vote was had, and

The resolution adopted.

Ordered that the Secretary inform the House thereof.

Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 25, Relating to rightof-way for a railroad up the Arkansas valley, from the Mis-sissippi to the Pacific coast,

Was taken up for consideration.

The question being: Shall the resolution be adopted ?
A vote was had, and

The resolution adopted.

Ordered that the Secretary inform the House thereof.

House Concurrent Resolution No. 6, Asking Congress to amend section 3, article 1, of the Constitution of the United States, so as to make United States Senators elective by the people,

Was taken up for consideration.

The question being: Shall the resolution be adopted?
A vote was had, and

The resolution adopted.

Ordered that the Secretary inform the House thereof.

House Concurrent Resolution No. 9, Appointing a Joint Committee to visit the State Insane Asylum,

Was taken up for consideration, and

Mr. Simpson moved to amend by inserting the words "two Senators and four Representatives.

Mr. Butler moved as an amendment to the amendment, "That a Committee of three on the part of the Senate and five on part of the House."

Upon which a vote was had, and

The amendment to the amendment adopted.

The question being upon the amendment as amended.
A vote was had, and

The amendment prevailed.

The question being: Shall the resolution as amended be adopted?

A vote was had, and

The resolution adopted.

Ordered that the Secretary inform the House thereof.

Mr. Martindale asked, and by unanimous consent obtained, leave of absence until to-morrow at 10 A. M.

Mr. V. P. Wilson offered

Senate Concurrent resolution No. 29, Relating to a Joint Committee to visit the Agricultural College.

Mr. Butler moved that the rules be suspended, and
House Concurrent Resolution No. 29, considered now.
Which motion prevailed, and

Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 29, Relating to a Joint Committee to visit the Agricultural College,

Was taken up for consideration.

The President appointed as Committee to visit the Insane Asylum:

Messrs. Butler, Morrill and Simpson.

Ordered that the Secretary inform the House thereof.

The President appointed as Committee to visit the Penitentiary:

Messrs. Rodgers, Price and Martindale.

The President appointed Miss Emma Hunt as Assistant Engrossing Clerk, who subscribed to the following oath :
