After the WarA story in drawings and words of a girl's life in a small town. In 1945 she plants an apple tree with her father, just home from the war. In 1999, a storm blows it over, and in 2000 a new tree is planted, a kowhai, and a tui feeds on it. The colour illustrations portray hundreds of details about the changes in New Zealand life - the farm is subdivided, the preserving jars are replaced with olive oil. Kerr's award-winning work includes 'The Optimist' and 'Mechanical Harry'. |

I bought this book for my grandson and then realised I had really bought it for me! This book is not only a family story, but a social history as well. And 12 years after I bought it I still find myself pouring over the pages and marvelling at the incite and the minute observations that Bob Kerr has made. Everytime I pick it up I make new discoveries. I think , next to Tales of Winnie the Pooh, it is the most endearing and enduring books in my library. Can't rate it highly enough. Val
